Caprica [Warning Spoilers]

What did you think?

I know it's been out for a couple months, but I missed it when it was on TV, and only recently saw it, thanks to Netflix.

So, what did you think of Caprica? Personally, I didn't really like it. It just wasn't as good as BSG. Even the special effects weren't as good. When they showed the Greystones' house/mansion, it just looked terrible. The Cylon effect, though, were pretty good.

And the begining was very unexpected (kids, don't watch it, at least not with your parents :P ) I think they could have left that part out without damaging the show in any way.

The story was pretty lackluster, as well. It seems that the Adamas were thrown in just to provide a connection to BSG. Joesph Adama being partly resposible for the creation of the Cylons was a "What the Frak?" moment. I mean, really, was that necissary?

For me at least, the only part of it that I actually liked was the creation of the Cylons, other than that, it was "meh" IMO, the only way for Caprica to gain the kind of popularity BSG has is if they fastfoward 10 years to the start of the first Cylon war. Otherwise, it seems like they will run out of ideas really fast.

So, that's my take on Caprica, whats yours?

I thought it was on the weird side, but I guess that shouldn't surprise me (given that BSG ended weird, and that 33 Minutes was probably the best episode in the series).

I don't think it's going to be a Cylon War story is the thing--from what I understood re: the stuff people were saying about it, it's a BSG universe thing that's supposed to have broader appeal than BSG itself did.

Shortly: I have very low hopes.

Oh yeah, I know that they weren't planning on it being about the Cylon War, but IMO, that's the only way to "save" the series. Otherwise, I see it lasting one, maybe two seasons before it's scrapped.

I have very low expectations for it... the miniseries (whatever) wasn't exactly enticing enough to watch steadily... I, myself, fell asleep during it twice only woken by loud noises from cats rumaging around.  This was at 3pm in the afternoon.

Nothing of the actual show seemed to grab my interest:
I felt the technology available was greater then that of the Cylon being created.
While I felt they were accurate about the feelings of the different worlds towards each other, it was... how do I want to say... forced and accentuated for the sake of drama.
They showed Caprica in a light that was supposed to mirror the ending from the actual show BSG, as apposed to the scenerio which it was previously displayed as for the entire series beforehand.

This is a typical case of PreQuels of successful franchises.  They're trying to expand on the possible income the powerful franchise holds and add things that aren't needed (Hello JarJar!) to "expand to new audiences".

It all smells very much part of the new syphalis rebranding plan.

However, I'm willing to give it a chance for the first episode

... can't be much worse then Bones... I mean Warehouse 13... I mean CSI: Mystical Items...

I'm still waiting for another episode... I liked what I saw so far.

Joseph Adam had absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the cylons....

I think you will learn that the tin cans, will become the adopted children of the 'final five' at some point, because those cylons existed prior to anything the stoltz character's family did to 'advance AI'

They did some amazing things, but the original 'Earth' that is already on the verge if not already blown up and the Cylons are out there at the 13th colonies location well before any of this occurs.

The 'five' will likely show up and pull an epic France moment. With Vive la Revolution when the tin cans get rebellious.

um... yeah he did. He had the AI-thingy (I don't remember the name) that the other company built stolen that Greystone put into the Cylon
