This is great! This is what the president is promising us all and is commendable. The issue I have is that his stated goal before he was elected is a single payer system meaning the government is the single payer. If that is correct then insurance companies will be excluded from the equation and all the promises will fade away with the insurance companies.

The healthcare bills floating through the Congress, are saying that you get to keep your insurance until there is a change, once your policy is changed you must get government coverage. If that is the case then the insurance companies will go out of business, they will die on the vine so to speak. The president is promising one thing and the Congress is forcing something completely different on us. Bait and switch is the order of the day.

Since achieving all those objectives without the ability to levy taxes is impossible, no health insurance company could possibly provide those policy features for a price anyone could afford. Which is their intent, of course.

Some of them could be achieved, no question, but none without a cost.

But that is what is so great about the plan. At this point the President is not talking about caping the costs. Insurance companies will raise rates accordingly but the government can always under cut them. The government is forbiddn by law to make a profit so it can charge as little as it wants.
