Spell List for Elemental (well probably)

Spell List for Elemental (well probably)

spells

I know many of us are eagerly awaiting to hear more news about Elemental so I thought I'd organize a list of spells which will probably be in the game based on screenshots.   Feel free to allow your imagination to provide spell descriptions.  Hope this provides fans with a temporary drug fix until the alpha/beta testing begins:

1) Rain of Fire

2) Shield of Life

3) Lingering Death

========Below are descriptions from a Developer Journal========

Beckon Home
A spell for the adventurer that just wants to get home to heal up. 'Beckon Home' sends any unit to a friendly settlement.

Flare
A ball of fire burns away the FOW and gies you full view of a selected part of the map. Flare uses both Fire mana and a small amount of essence. Think of it as the 'Eye of Sauron: Lite'.

Sublime Harvest
Feed your people with some magical rations! Sublime Harvest tops up a settlement's food supply, using both Earth mana and a pinch of your essence.

Pyrostorm
Burn away a section of forest or any unused Fertile Ground with Pyrostorm.

P.S. ~  There's a new developer journal which some of you would find interesting.   :)

If it were "Eats, Shoots and Leaves", I'd be with you.  But somehow the '&' makes the lack of a ',' A.O.k.

P.S. I feel a twinge of guilt that I've gone so far off-topic.  Not quite enough for me to stop...but almost.

well, if you want to get back on topic (because you feel bad about it) then talk about spells.

maybe there will be a wind storm spell that creates a tornado of some kind.   I'd love to see a tornado rampage around enemy turf.

I don't really feel too bad about it.

Ah... aw... shucks.  Alright.

I want to make a themed "pack" of spells.  Something that people can download and will have a set of spells that follow some .. theme.  The obvious example would be packs that cover the different elements.  So yes, of course, fire, water, air, earth.  I wouldn't know how to create the visual effects (yet) but that would be part of the deal.

Other themes might be taken from the concept of spell schools, as in D&D, including:

Alteration, Illusion, Enchantment, Divination, Conjuration, Invocation, Necromancy, Abjuration

Can't really create an analogue of most D&D type spells in Elemental, since the game scope is different (e.g., Magic Missle wouldn't amount to much of an impact on a game like Elemental that focuses more on strategic level actions.. I think.   Have to see how things roll first.

Actually, if this old dev journal is still "valid"(and I've seen nothing to say that it isn't), the game will have a particle editor that will be able to create spell animations. The video even makes it look easy!

The video?  I saw a pic of some hoodlum getting all happy about a couple of plastic cup lids and the fact that he spilled toothpicks all over the table.  Pretty sure the wait-staff at that liquid lunch was upset.

Anyway, yeah, "Particle Engine (and corresponding in-game Particle Editor)" goes a long way (all the way) to making custom visuals for custom spell effects a done deal.  Thanks for the link.
