Word DOC File Icons Gone

from Stardock Forums

After uninstalling MyCOLORS, all Word 97-2003 format DOC files in my system (and those I receive as email attachments) now have a blank icon (2007 format DOC files are okay) rather than a word DOC icon.

They open and can be edited okay, but I want the original icons back. I have tried using "Open with..." to re-associate them with Word, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

in windows xp do the following...

open a window (my computer\c: drive)
click the file types tab
locate DOC in the extensions list
verify Opens With is selected on MS Office Word
you can reselect the icon from here as well

worst case, deleted the DOC file type
click APPLY
click NEW
enter DOC and click Advanced.  select MS Office Word

if you have Vista, the process is similar but you access the file types screen from another path.  hope this helps.

Yes, I have Vista. Sorry, I can't find the "another path" that you speak of. What would that be?

I found this program installed on my PC presumably by Parallels Desktop.  Since uninstalling it I have lost the icon for .DOC files and none of the above solutions work.  Anyone got any other ideas.  Kinda pissing me off.  Didn't want the software bloody installed in the first place.

It's on a 32bit Vista installation, and file associations are set up correctly.  Doublr clicking on the blank icon correctly opens Word 2007.  Oh, and .docx files are fine.  It's just .doc files that have blank icons.

I have the same problem - blank page icon instead default doc icon. I've tried all passible solutions including listed above and here: https://forums.stardock.com/378325 but unfortunately nothing works!!!  >:( PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! X(
