Guess who made this year's cartoon hypocrite and soon-to-be job seekers list? Well, that would be Garry Trudeau, Pat Oliphant, Jeff Danziger, Ted Rall and John Sylvester.

All of these fellows engaged in the kind of racism that the Left claims to deplore but somehow certain libs feel free to fling when the fling-ee happens to be conservative.

When it became public knowledge that National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice was slated to be the first black female Secretary of State, the KKKartoonists put their hate pens to paper and sketched out things that would embarrass a white supremacist.

Trudeau's cartoon featured President Bush tagging Rice with the label "Brown Sugar."

In two of his cartoons, Oliphant depicted Rice as a big-lipped parrot.

Danziger showed Rice as a servant in "Gone with the Wind."

And even before the announcement was made, Rall referred to Rice as the President's "House [N-word]."

Then there's John "Sly" Sylvester, a radio talk show host on WTDY-AM in Madison, Wisconsin. Sylvester called Condoleezza Rice an "Aunt Jemima."

Sylvester subsequently issued an apology. But before you feel the urge to forgive and forget, the "I'm sorry" wasn't made to Condoleezza.

"It is with a heavy heart that I apologize this morning to Aunt Jemima. She wasn't a self-serving hack politician who got up in front of Congress and lied. Aunt Jemima didn't kowtow to Don Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney," Sylvester said.

Personally, I don't often agree with NAACP president Kweisi Mfume, but I do this time. Mfume described those who make such statements as "just as bad as those who hide under sheets and burn crosses."

The Left Coast Report echoes Mfume's description of Rice as "an example of how far hard work, education and determination can take one to new heights."

It is heartening to see when announced liberals condemn such vile depictions. I know Feingold did as soon as Sylvester uttered his idiocy.

While I don't know about the rest of them, it's a bit silly to think that Gary Trudeau will be unemployed at any point in the near future. Doonesbury is sindicated in hundreds of newspapers, and the odds that they'll all pull it based on an article in Newsmax is kind of silly. Having said that, racist comments are inappropriate no matter who makes them.

You have no idea . . . I don't know if your familiar with Rall's cartoon work or with his writing, but he is possibly the most hate-filled, vile, disgusting man on the planet. About 98% of what he puts out is highly offensive -- to me -- a lefty!

And I agree that racism and hate is wrong and it doesn't matter who said it or drew it. I won't defend anyone for racist speech or artwork. It's wrong.

Did you read my post? It plainly states that the cartoonists got real bad when Rice was appointed Sec. of State, that happened days ago NOT a year ago

Yes, I did read your post, and as a subscriber to Doonesbury.com I went and checked it out. Since I have access to the archives, I wanted to find out when this reference was made, and it was made months ago, before there was even discussion about Colin Powell resigning. My point was that your post was either a mistake, or, lies. Which is it? I assumed it was a mistake and so I brought the mistake to your attention. You have now repeated your baseless allegation which you hadn't even bothered to check up on after I told you there was an error.

Follow-up on P21 vs. Ted Rall
I've appeared on a number of radio talk-shows discussing the Project 21 press release from earlier this week. The release condemns an early July political cartoon by Ted Rall, a cartoonist syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate.

A letter went out from Project 21, with my signature on it on Monday of this week, asking that they reconsider Rall's standing with them, in light of his cartoon, which depicted National Security Director Condoleezza Rice being referred to as a "house n-----."
Also on Monday, letters were sent to the NAACP, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the PUSH/Rainbow Coalition, asking that they take a look at the case, especially in light of their participation in going after commentator Rush Limbaugh last fall, after comments that disparaged Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. After all, they have stated that they would be interested in righting wrongs where they exist in terms of black individuals.

(CNSNews.com) - A coalition of black clergy Friday denounced recent "racial motivated attacks" by three editorial cartoonists, the Washington Post and the New York Times upon National Security Adviser Dr. Condoleezza Rice, who was recently nominated by President Bush to serve as the next secretary of state.

The Faith Based Leadership Council, a group of over 200 black clergy and members of the faith-based community, said cartoonists Jeff Danzinger, Pat Oliphant, Garry Trudeau, the Post and the Times have used racial stereotypes "to conduct their personal character assassination of" Rice's integrity because she chose to serve the Bush administration.

"These cartoonists believe that the liberal views of the Washington Post and New York Times somehow provides cover for them to engage in racist attacks upon Dr. Rice and other minority in the Bush Administration," said Oliver N.E. Kellman, Jr., executive director of the FBLC, in a statement.

"Mr. Danzinger's, Mr. Oliphant's and Mr. Trudeau's racist depictions of Dr. Rice are of the most twisted Ku Klux Klan/Skinhead Mindset. I am astonished that the NAACP, Rainbow-Push and other traditional civil rights groups did not denounce this type of trash from the very first day it was reported," Kellman said in a statement.

"Instead, they are silent witnesses to this racially motivated character assassination because of Dr. Rice's politics," he added. "The FBIC believes in the advancement of all Americans, no matter their political affiliation, gender or ethnic background.

"Dr. Rice has been singled out for persecution by a handful of bigoted liberals who have characterized her as a steppin and fetchin sambo," said Kellman, adding that he believes "they feel threatened and disturbed by the fact that Dr. Rice will soon be the most powerful Black woman in the United States as Secretary of State."

The FBLC is calling on the cartoonists and both papers to publicly apologize to Rice. "White liberals in the media have come to feel that they can openly attack any Black conservative that chooses to serve the nation," the group said.

The group is also urging the Justice Department to conduct a full investigation into these incidents and whether the civil rights of Rice and outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell were violated "by the promotion of racial bigotry towards persons of color serving their nation."

Meanwhile, John "Sly" Sylvester, a white radio talk show host in Madison, Wisc., Friday defended comments he made calling Rice an "Aunt Jemima," saying he did it to indicate her subservient role in the Bush administration.

Sylvester said the Bush administration is using Rice for the "illusion of inclusion," and he expressed the opinion that Rice isn't up to the job of secretary of state, wire reports said.

According to the Associated Press, Sylvester said he will "apologize to Aunt Jemima" on Friday's show by giving away pancake mix and syrup. The Madison branch of the NAACP had no immediate comment on Sylvester's remarks.
"To hear the leftists tell it, conservative blacks have become the new 'trash class' of American society," said Michael King, a member of Project 21, a black conservative group. King condemned the cartoonists' depictions of Rice as well as Sylvester's comments about Rice and Powell.

"And with the continued cricket-filled silence from the professional civil rights crowd, the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons give tacit permission and acceptance of such language and tactics," King said.

"The recent racist attacks and mimicry of Condoleezza Rice are infuriating and despicable. Even more insufferable is the deafening silence of the elite liberals," Project 21 member Mychal Massie.

"I believe their silence is proof positive of their personal racist attitudes. Obviously condemning racist attacks against a man and woman who are conservative and black is not a worthy undertaking for them," Massie said.

Here’s but a snippet: In his recent comic strip, Doonesbury creator and liberal Democrat Garry Trudeau depicts Dr. Rice as an un-educated idiot, and refers to her as "Brown Sugar." In his recent cartoon, liberal Democrat and Boston Globe syndicated cartoonist Pat Oliphant characterizes Dr. Rice as a squawking parrot perched upon President Bush’s finger, blindly, mindlessly and dutifully observing his every whim. Her lips are exaggerated in a grossly bulbous and ethnically stereotypical fashion. And, with his recent masterpiece, liberal Democrat and LA Times editorial cartoonist Jeff Danziger reminds us all of the days when the KKK actually had some pull. His cartoon portrays Dr. Rice as, what can only be described as a tattered barefoot slave "mammy" (probably Prissy from Gone with the Wind). She sits in a rocking chair with her legs spread. On her lap she holds an aluminum tube like an infant (ostensibly a tube of the uranium enrichment variety). She attempts to feed the tube with a bottle and then, in the stereotypical vernacular of a "colored," says, "I knows all about aluminum tubes. Correction. I don't know nuthin' about aluminum tubes." There's no hiding the truth: liberalism, and leftist forms of government, are inextricably bound to bigotry, whether racial or religious. Socialism and communism are responsible for ethnic cleansing, suppression of religious freedom, and civil rights abuses of all kinds on a scale unequaled on the world stage. Yet the it's liberal left which paints the conservative right with the broad brush of racism. And with the help of the liberal media in the US, they're pretty successful. Liberal media ignores blatant racism from from leaders on the left, while focusing like a laser beam on the slightest misspoken word from the right.

It is sad and bizarre that these attacks are coming from the very people professing to be for "lifting people up."

It exposes their moral bankruptcy and shows us who "really" thinks they own the plantation, doesn't it?

The thing that must frost them the most is that while they've had the rhetoric forever, it's the right that has been color-blind and put the rhetoric into practice. It is a pathetic irony that these cartoons, in particular, have been penned by liberal cartoonists. Had such cartoons been published, by anyone, in, say 1965, can you image the reaction? It's breathtaking.

It is the height of desperation, not to mention racism, to claim that either Rice or Powell were unwitting dupes. Makes me almost ill, actually.

I've repeatedly said I know nothing about the others, only Gary Trudeau. As for your other reputable news sources, I regret to say I have heard of none of them. I have heard of CNN however, and searching their site came up with no news regarding Mr. Trudeau. Also, as I said, searching the archives of Doonesbury, the last reference to Dr. Rice was several months ago. It's from the April 7 2004 copy of Doonesbury. Is Trudeau a racist? No. Does he occasionally use words which may shock peope of sensitive personality? Yes. With a non-scientific poll I conducted where I showed this strip to students and asked if they were offended by Mr. Trudeau's depiction of Rice, 62% said no. Of the 38% that said yes, 96% of them were Republicans. Of the students in my class, 21% of the students are of African American descent, of those 0% were offended. Further, Trudeau's comment was made to illustrate Bush's tendency, which had been revealed shortly before the strip was released, to give some staff members nicknames they were not overly fond of.

Just out of curiousity, are you more upset that Trudeau "insulted" a republican, or that he insulted an African American.
