Also if you know of how to fix the problem with it running in Vista I could use some advise.
Impulse is the update tool to use.
Make sure you are logged in coreectly with the account you used to buy Ultimate.
Go to th MyGames tab and verify that Ultimate is installed. If there are updates available they will be indicated in the status column.
just for the record, and I'm not just kissing stardock's a$$...but I love using Impulse. 
And what if I bought GalCiv 2 Dread Lords in a store? Can I not update it at all?
The base game can still be registered with Impulse (now GameStop) to download updates.
I've got an update problem and impulse, games stop and stardock central will not load something to do with a missing .dll this one: MSVCR100_CLR0400.dll, and my copy of Galciv2 Ultimate keeps crashing when loading the loader (both when installed or not), can only play it if I use the dead lords, dark avatar or twilight of arnor apps within the game directory files. Any help please?I'm running it on vista sp2. I also have it on xp sp3 but that works fine is there a way to transfer the files manually to update it?
That is part of the MS C++ runtime package. You can try [re]installing it using the appropriate version for your Windows--
