A few things I learned while perusing their forums:

1. The Mercs game they're releasing is not the version that originally came in the box. It's going to be a DVD compilation of MW4:Mercs + official IS and Clan Mechpaks + unofficial Mektek Mekpak 3.1 + a buttload of community maps + an update utility to be used when MekPak 4 is released later this year, all bundled into a single installer. No more nightmarish patching process!

2. The new release will not include C-Dilla DRM, so the game will now run on 64-bit Vista. I heard the game also used Safedisk, and while no one has explicitly mentioned whether that will also be removed, they have said that the game won't require a disk in the drive. I'm guessing that means no DRM at all, but I'd still like to see it confirmed.

3. It won't be out for a few weeks. Mid-August, most likely. MekTek claims they were as surprised as everyone else by the announcement, and since they're doing a lot more than ripping some old disks, it's going to take them a little while to get everything together and make sure it all works properly.

4. No widescreen support or MekTek mechs in singleplayer yet, but they're looking into having it in MekPak 4.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait to warm up the PPC's and start whining about poptarting noobs with no leg armor. \o/

Meh, MW4 is not such a great game, all in all.

Following the new Mechwarrior game announcement I installed my copy of MW3, which is a much better game. It is almost as good and the controls are almost as sharp as MW2, but with better graphics.

Awesomeness! I haven't really played this game more than an hour since I never owned it, but I totally want to! <3 mech games.

Yes, yes it is.

I loved MW3, but thought MW4 dumbed it down to "point and shoot" way too much.  Little details like missile swarms looked atrocious in MW4, but looked awesome in MW3.  I seriously wish they'd taken MW3 and just used MW4's rendering engine.

Also, the game will be using MekMatch, MekTek's replacement for ZoneMatch.

I want to play Mech 4 mercenaries, will that be free?

Also, as a review, Jalicos' excellent post. The only thing that has changed is that we may see MekTek Mechs in campaign after all.
