As good of a concept it is and as good as the graphics are. I dont thnk this game will make it

I get the feeling that the game was released before it was ready and then forgotten about and left for someone in an office to mess around with.    The game is incredibly buggy.  Its fun to play but even simple things like rounding a corner get the characters and AI stuck.  Theres a whole forum section with pages of bugs and the game itself is pretty limited in what is in it.. so a high percentage of things in this game are bugged.   The balancing just doesnt seem thought out or well implemented.   You cant say the game is balanced just due to the fact that some demigods are inherently much better on certain maps and some are better in 5vs5 play compared to 1vs1 or 2vs2.       The "normal"  play settings/player count/map hasnt been decided so there is no way to tell how they balanced the demigods.     Then just the overall implemention of the game going back to release seems really shakey.

To be honest the thing that really made me question it was when I tried to text talk in game and a big black box appeared in the middle of my screen.    really?     Long on ->    All favor items and points erased.  A new random demigod button that is bugged.. and then when I get in game a cool new black text  box that blocks the game.

I get the feeling its like the sitcom 3rd Rock where the boss decides he wants to be in charge of creative development too and just starts adding all this weird sht that he thinks are good ideas.  anyways thats my rant.

i often hear people complaining that the game was released before it was ready. while it is true that the game has bugs, i do not think there are too many of them. its more like, i was impressed how little there are. you mention the bad pathing around obstacles, and i know there are some other issues. but the majority are quirky behavior and not game breaking errors. i do not know what kind of games you are used to, but i feel that demigods release was not too early ("the game was released before it was ready" is something you hear a lot these days like some kind of fashion trend?).

i can see some of your points when you talk about bugs, but talking about balancing?

as i said i do not know what games you played but it sounds a lot like games with very little variety in game play, better game types  (shooters like counter strike or even the infamous dota). most important thing first: the game is not "unbalanced". its been a long time since i last played a game with that much fair, fun and close matches.

now for some more detail (please skip this paragraph and read the summary below if you have a hard time thinking about abstract and theoretic principles) . let me give a simple example how i think about "balance".  no game with player interaction can be balanced. if you flip coins, the coin can literally be balanced or not, if it is the flip is fair and balanced else its not (most coins are imbalanced by the way). but a somewhat more complex game like rock paper scissors (while its still quite not nearly as complex as most video games) can not be called balanced or not anymore. the problem is while it seems that the game is fair it is not. people tend to use rock a lot less when they start so using scissors or rock yourself tends to win more often. this might not be true for everyone you play against but for the region i live in it certainly is. the last sentence pretty much illustrates a concept i grew to know as meta (-game). the meta game is the sum of all possible tactics and has to contain some analysis of currently popular and often used tactics. rock paper scissors  has a pretty boring meta game because there are so little possibilities. but demigod on the other hand has a very interesting meta, there are a lot of different tactics how to win and you see a lot of them being used. its much better to look at the meta game to judge a game than to try to define if it is balanced or not. this is because you cant define some absolute values on something of you have to account for nondeterministic (human) behavior. so you do not change the game to "balance" it but you change it to keep the meta interesting i.e. to keep a lot of different strategies viable. but this is not something you can do once and for all, because the meta changes and you might have to regularly readjust some of the games parameters. and thats not something you could change by "doing it right the first time".

to summarize: demigod has a very interesting meta game which is a much better indicator for a good game than the question "is it balanced".

as i see the last to paragraphs of your post just as a random rant (as you say yourself) i wont comment on them.

edit: oh i forgot the title:

what the heck do you mean by "will not make it"? will not make what? it wont change the world? it will not be sold once? it will never be playable? everyone will have stopped playing it by next week? seriously none of that is true and i cant think about anything that is.

It seems like a typical failure pattern.  You knock one out of the park (Sins) and you say "this is easy," let's make another blockbuster.  So, for the same paltry budget you make another game but you don't need to try as hard and you keep to the same failed principles (P2P multi-player?!?!?, wtf is it 1992 still?)

Stardock published Sins and Demigod, but did not develop them. Additionally, these games were developed by different studios. Thus, your point is invalid.
