love the update, hate the chatbox

I love the 1.1 patch as a whole, and I like that stardock was looking into the chat system some. However, that chatbox is very distracting in a big game with lots of chatter. I makes the text a bit easier to read, but it makes seeing what I'm doing more difficult and its distracting.

Is there a way to customize that thing to act like it used to (with no background) ? Or can we have that feature added?

Yeah, I found it a little bit too distracting too. Now it's like, WOAH! when someone types a message. But I'd still prefer it over the old system.

However, what I'd still like to see is some color coding for allied and public messages, so we can distinguish them at a glance and not by carefully looking at the word "All" or "All..ies"

Color coding now thats an idea

The first time it came up "WTF is this", it does take your eye away from the game. Made me increase my screen size for the next game  .

I definitely prefer the chat box; makes it easier to communicate in real-time.

If it doesn't scale to resolution size it would be too big in the smaller resolutions but I find it fine and not at all distracting.

I like it - much clearer when chat is occuring.

It's much better than the old chatbox, but it gets in the way a bit. Would be nice if it worked the same as the impulse chat, so you can move it and change the size.

They should make it a little bit more transparent and also align the contour of the box, it's not straight in the left side. Or ditch the brown countour...

Overall it's better than the old one, but it needs some polishing. Same for the scroll bar in the demigod/random panel, it's kinda bugged when you click on it.

Also, i think they should change the way the concede option notifies the players. I can barely see it when someone ask for concede. They should make the text red, or put the red text in the chatbox, so it's very easy to see.

Also, we need tabs for General, Trade, Guild, LFG, and Combat.

If it had an opacity setting it'd be perfect.

imo,  straight up retarded.     big black box that pops up blocking the gameplay.     had no problem reading text before just a random change that made game worse.

Yeah i have to say while on one hand i prefer being able to clearly see what's being written i find the chatbox now is way too obtrusive and distracting. Definitely needs reworking.

I found it nice, it only obscures a small portion of the view right?  Is everyone running in like 800x600 mode or something?

I can see why they did this but I really really really really really prefer the old way better.  Now when the chat pops up it blocks a portion of the action.

If I had the option have having more trouble seeing the action or more trouble seeing the chat, I would choose the latter every time.

Honestly I think a good compromise would be to have an option to set the level of transparency of the chatbox so if you set it to 50% you could see mostly through it to whats happening behind, but with the chat still being clearly visible.

I like this better than the old one, because the old way made it really easy to miss messages.  A transparency slider in the options plus a nice lil toggleable, recognizeble noise when messages are sent is needed though.  Also agree on colors, just use blue for Light and red for Dark -- also needed on the kill and flag messages at the top of the screen.

A good example will be the chat box use in most mmorpg where there is

1) a resizable chat box & also it can move to any location of your screen

2) As Goggris suggest a slider to adjust the transparency from 0 to 100%

3) Allow the colour to be chose for text

4) Last one is where the time it took for the text to disappear after it has been receive

I think it's great...it's just in an awful spot. I should be towards the lower left. Having it right in the middle like that is kinda annoying.

Movement and opacity would be good solutions
