Decision 2004

Mourning for America

For my first article I have decided to write about decision 2004. I am appalled that so many people in the United States are still supporting Bush. I live in Washington where almost everyone around me is pro-Kerry. Although I am neither a democrat nor a Republican and I don't like Bush or Kerry. I don't think that allowing Bush another 4 years in office is the smartest idea. In any responses I get from this article, I hope to hear from true Republicans who back Bush 100% to tell me what is so great about him.

We've been round the bend & back on the subject, and your tone suggests you're not likely to be persuaded George was a good choice, so I'm afraid I won't be able to offer a specific reply.

Yeah, Felicia, it's a rough time for liberals and anti-Bushers of all persuasions. I've moping around something terrible.

For the record: this site has a slant to the right, but nearly everyone here who writes on a regular basis proves to me that we're all going to have to revisit our beliefs. I guarantee if you search the posts of both liberal and conservatives here, you' ll find endless responses to your question.

And remember this: by posting a message like this, you seem to be, on the one hand, asking for opinions; on the other hand, you seem to be discouraging different opinions.

If you're like me, a stunned liberal shaking your head, it's probably time to stop hating people for a different political mind set, especially if we ever want to win one of these election thingies again.

Look around, there's some brilliant thinkers here, even though I passionately disagree with several of them

Props to you for your reasonableness.

Perhaps I was a little too dismissive. We need more Felicias just now. The "slant" you describe is just a reflection of the volume of posts from one side of the aisle or the other over a period of time. From about August through the election, I would have characterized the slant here as just the opposite, very much to the left. Problem is, few from the left are still hanging out here. I hope their absence is temporary 'cause preaching to the choir can get old pretty quick, but for some it's looking like gone-zo.

So, Felicia, please stick with us and remember the CRT or LCD can't hurt you (figuratively speaking).

I do not think I am able to revisit my beliefs. I am who I am, and I will never buy into the conservative agenda. However, I do know that I need to revisit how I present my beliefs, as does the rest of the lefties and democratic party. Yeah, I'm depressed over the loss, for sure. Bush stands for the most reactionary and yes evil about the righties, with the Patriot Act; the environment, including global warming; their religious furvor, which is dangerous to non-Christians and Christians; their coddling of big business at the expense of the rest of the world, including defense contractors, pharmaceutical companies, power companies, and money launderers; thier complete disregard for meaningful health care for everyone, etc. etc. etc. Truthfully, I'm scared of what the next four years will bring.....................

Felicia, I am not a republican, nor 100% behind Bush.

I am conservative, and I did vote for him.  Why?  The biggest reason was he was NOT Kerry.

Unfortunately, that seems to be a big factor.  Perhaps the democrats could learn something from that....?

They should do a poll on how many people voted for who they wanted vs how many just voted for "the lesser of two evils". I fall in the latter category, and I voted for Bush.

Yet the Dems have been chided for voting for Kerry because he was "Not Bush" . . . interesting . . .

I didn't vote for Bush, because of certain policies. In speaking with those that did, the reasons have been as follows:

1. He'll keep us safe from the terrorists (whatever)

2. He's pro-life (repeal abortion "rights" we wish)

3. Has "morals" (at least they think his priorities are the same as theirs)

4. Against gay marriage (went for a long-shot amendment on protecting "sanctity of marriage" but later professed support for domestic partnership priviliges - must be nice to have cake and eat it to)

5. Policies more small business friendly and, hey, I got a tax cut!

6. Strong on Iraq (very puzzling to me why anyone would defend the Iraq debacle, but oh well...)

As you can see, particularly with 2 and three, people identified with Bush, this was buffered by people's support of the war (or is that, supporting the Commander in - I mean troops) his tax cuts, and the generally decent economy.
