Patch 2.0, its that time

I just feel its about time for a new patch with atleast 2 new gods. Dont be the game company to feature it all in expansions, there have been plenty of ideas on this forum to through in one or 2 free extra gods for us to toy with.

Well, I'm sorry to break it to you, but just because you "feel it's about time" doesn't mean the new Demigods are going to be magically finshed and ready to release.  They do have a major patch coming out next week (1.1), but it won't yet include new Demigods.

Also, pretty sure 2.0 wouldn't be a patch so much as a sequel ;)

I do think it would be incredibly wise to get those 2 new demigods out ASAP though... the smell of death and all that...

I think even a single new DG would do wonders for the game.  The people who'd gotten frustrated with early connectivity problems might load the game up again to check it out and find out connectivity is dramatically improved while they're at it.

It is also what i think, but two new demigods seems like a wiser idea if the decs don't want to see endless whinning about the fact that one side has 5 demigods and the other 4.

I would like to have more informations about those 2 demigods, they were supposed to be released something like 2 monthes after the release, and now we don't even know if they are close to be released or if we will have to wait until november.

Well what they could do is nerf the damage and health of all of demigods on the side with five by 20% to counterbalance the disproportion. :)

Really though it's a good question, and one I think Frogboy asked directly - would players be more upset about waiting longer to get any new DGs at all or would they get more agitated by having a disproportionate amount of DGs?  Personally I'd rather just get one as soon as it's ready, I'd gladly deal with disproportionate sides (in quantity, not fairness/power/balance) while waiting on the second.

From what I've read, all we can 'expect' this month is 1.1.

Yeah, 2 new DGs and 2 new maps would be a nice start.

20 DGs and 50 maps would be a nice goal.

As for a patch, here's a few things I'd like to see addressed:

  • Pathfinding. Getting stuck on corners, stopping to wait for invisible ants to cross the lane, or deciding to walk in the entirely wrong direction, aren't enjoyable features. Can I haz pathfinding that actually works, please?
  • The UI at least needs an option to display health and mana numerically as well as graphically, and the hovering health bars needs to reflect the actual state of whatever critter they hover over. Better still, scale down the mana, health, abilities, gear and portrait so there's room to display the state of allied DGs, and perhaps current values of your own armour and speed. And make both player and allies targetable through the UI.
  • The AI is a disaster. No, that's not too strong a word. I am not a terribly great player, but I do play a great deal and in my experience the side who, for whatever reasons, get stuck with one or more AIs, is invariably doomed. If GPG can't figure out how to make it better and can't figure out how to release an AI devkit, either disable it in multiplayer games, or make it not provide any gold or XP to enemies when it dies and remove its ability to buy creature related citadel upgrades.
  • Include options to use /serverproxyonly and /windowed X Y in the in-game options, and update the manual accordingly.
  • Do whatever you can to increase connection speed. Yes, it really works now. But it's not infrequent to see it take as long to establish a connection between two users, as loading the actual match.
  • Get proper friend and clan functionality included in Impulse and the in-game overlay. Preferably with vent servers or something functionally similar.
  • Incorporate some sort of ignore list, so sucky players - like yours truly - have an easy way to avoid getting matched up with the same sucky human beings - like people spamming abuse in all caps - more than once.
  • Create a "target enemy DG, but not the Rook" hotkey. Or scale the guy down a little. Yes, big walking fortresses look cool. But gameplay-wise, it's a bit of a nuisance.
  • Stop creating shortcuts every time there's the slightest little update, unless I specifically asks the updater to do it. I might be the only one, I don't know, but I actually use the Start menu. Which means every time you decide to clutter it up with stuff, you disrupt my habits and get on my nerves. Really, it's not the way to make friends, SD.
