Object Desktop 2010: First details

Object Desktop 2010: First details

What: Object Desktop 2010

When: Late October 2009

Details:

Will come in two forms: Object Desktop ($49.95) and Object Desktop Ultimate ($69.95).

Object Desktop is scheduled to include:

  • WindowBlinds 7
  • IconPackager 5
  • WindowFX 4
  • Fences
  • DeskScapes 3
  • LogonStudio

Object Desktop Ultimate will take the above and add:

  • DesktopX 3.51
  • ObjectBar
  • Keyboard LaunchPad
  • Tweak 7
  • IconDeveloper
  • SoundPackager
  • MyColors with 5 themes
  • BootSkin XP/Vista
  • SkinStudio 7
  • RightClick

Highlights

  1. WindowBlinds 7 is going to be a major change from WindowBlinds 6 and previous versions. Biggest change since its inception.
  2. WindowBlinds 7 will include an additional skinning engine being developed for it.
  3. IconPackager 5 is targeting to include enhanced live folder support for Vista/7 users.
  4. WindowFX 4 is a rewrite of WindowFX and will focus on bringing a lot of UI conventions from Windows 7 back to Windows Vista and XP users as well as expanding on what else is in there. We hope to add a feature that could be described as Expose-like.
  5. A lot of cool new stuff is being added to Fences.
  6. DeskScapes 3 will add a new type of .Dream type tentatively called hybrid. It will let users have their cake and eat it too – far easier to make animated wallpapers that use a lot fewer resources.
  7. Tweak 7 will build off of Tweak Vista.
  8. SkinStudio 7 is a major overhaul with the objective to make it easy for pro UI designer to be able to create skins much easier without having to become experts on the intricasies of skinning while at the same time making it much easier for casual users to create simple but attractive skins.

The individual major updates to the programs listed above are expected to be rolled out between now and the end of October.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Object Desktop so we’ve been really going all out this time. We’ve tried to stay quiet about what we’re doing to make sure the ambitious plans we have could really be done. This year will be, by far, the  most significant update to our desktop enhancement techs to date.

Dynamic dreams require a user to know how to code.

The hybrid ones don't.

So no chance to ever see the SDK released then?

This is in addition to video and dynamic dreams.  I believe the SDK will finally be released with Deskscapes 3.

5*

(not that I need it, but releasing the GPL-based dreams without an official SDK available would not be nice)

Along with Duke Nuke'em Forever? :P

It sounds good, but there has been a fair amount of posts that did sound good about the SDK before. So I hope you don't mind that I believe it when I see it. I do look forward to it though (which I've never really done with DNF, it'll be just another FPS anyway :P).

If you are limiting DX to the Ultimate users only, then why not have the basic version for the non ultimate so they can at least use the widgets etc. It seems that there is now diferentation between the normal OD just for applying things whereas OD+ is for those that want to skin also. seems that more stuff gets moved from OD into the ultimate version each time. Perhaps a move to make more purchase the ultimate edition? Also you missed Theme Manager off the list.

Hope WFX will fix an error running since a long time applying " maximize to size" windows which is generating on my french XP SP3 system an error called "une opération non prise en charge a été tentée" (strange message in french - why in french ?) which means "something's non authorized had been tried" ... >_>

Should be an exciting year! I'm very much looking forward to it. You guys do a great job! RAD

To Old Crab:

Usually, at least in the past, if you have an active sub when the new version comes out they seem to give you the upgrade. At least I think thats how it worked last time IIRC.

As for Deskscape3...YEAH! & HURRRY!!! I test Win 7 and have really been missing my animated desktops. I was actually afraid they had maybe abandoned it  since MS doesn't seem to be doing anything with animated desktops in Win 7 so far. Hopefully a beta will show soon.

Hi Jess

I dont know if i should say this, but pls checkout www.3planesoft.com.  I am a longtime user of there products, and there newest screensavers (simply the best anywhere) include animated desktops with them, and they work fine in windows 7 RC for me. :)

But who wants to pay $14.00 for one animated wallpaper? Sheesh, that is expensive!! o_O :S :S

I hope so! I hope it has the 'speed control'...there are so many Dreams of Ausvet and Amitsaran which I feel would be more stellar if I could only decrease their speed without compromising their focus.

Deskscapes 3 should be showing up in Beta form next week.

Wow this sounds great Neil. For win7 ? Now we are going places. I heard that win7 ultimate and pro. would have such things. Hope there is not a problem with making it 64 bit here for the release date in Oct..

Actually, I'm rather looking forward to Tweak Win8.  It sounds like it'll beat XP's TweakUI hands down, and I did so love that program!  Ahhh... the memories!O:)

BY the way, in which categories will Rightclick and ThemeManager fit?

Is desktopX being moved to ultimate only?

It currently sells with the standard version.  Can you confirm?
