Book

Just thought I'd mention unofficially here that we plan to have a hard cover book available at retail that takes place in the world of Elemental at around the same time the game is released.

Would it be possible to bundle the book with the already ordered download+box version? Otherwise the shipping costs (to europe) will be > (or almost) than the book price....

Sounds nice... Will it be available outside US?
This x 3000

Any chance of Freak Edition of the game that includes the book? I would buy it. Some kind of limited edition. Or just add the book on Impulse and let me add it to my preorder.^_^

Yeah, good idea. Shipping stuff from the US to outside the US is painfully expensive these days. (Although if by "retail" you mean book stores and it'll be available outside the US, that may be okay too.)

I love how this is posted in such a casual tone, in the general forums.

Anyway, who's writing it? What can we expect in terms of literary quality? Sounds nice, to set the stage, but if I read it before playing it's probably going to seriously impede my roleplaying efforts. Here I come with some random faction with some random channeler that doesn't fit into the 'story'.

:p

Anyhow, I second the request to have it bundled.

Bundled would be nice!  But it would probably be easier to offer a .pdf download for owners of the game.

You mean a standalone book that doesn't come with the game? Hmm.

I'd like to see it bundled with our Box for preOrder customers as well :-)

Heretic!!! Old school books for the win!!!

Not that I disagree with a pdf being easier, but I want my books to be... real. I love the weight of a book in my hands while I walk (reading it). Those The Dark Tower books are heavy.

Not to mention that when you're sitting at a bus stop on the way to work, a .pdf isn't all that practical.

Print button.

Print button.
The Inquisition in my country (actually named SGAE) could see that as an act inciting to piracy. Also, not the same.

Looks nice. Will Brad be writing this himself, or will there be a professional author in the mix?

I love reading.

Who is writing it? I read all the time. So much so that my wife give me hell because I have books lying around everywhere.

I have seen several references in forum posts for Brad needing more time to finish his book. I think that it was a reference to this one.

oh wow.  That is interesting.   I'd buy it (for fanboy reasons if nothing else).

Will it be sold over impulse?

Does it have to be hardcover?  those are expensive.  Perhaps only a limited number of hardcover and a bunch of softcover (depending on how good the book is, of course)

Edit:  Unless its one of those 3D pop-up books.  You know, the kind we used to read as children (or at least I did).  Those were awesome!   They cost a lot, but are totally worth it.

Naturally that means a D&D, or other table-top RPG, will have at lesat a few games set in the world as well.   (perhaps if I feel it is particularly well developed I could push Burning Wheel into posting something for it)

Is the book going to have a public beta too?   You know, where we get to read it and correct typos or something?

Isn't that what Spellcheck and the publisher are for?

Will the book be modable?:P

I like the idea of an Elemental rpg... but it needs more than the desire for it. It would be fun if Stardock started their own rpg brand and selfpublished it.

SHHH, that isn't the point.  I want insight.

though typos goes beyond what spellcheck usually catches.   Typos include grammar mistakes, some of which I don't believe would even be caught by the avarage reader.  (I hate when stupid mistakes like misuses of "who" and "whom" get out in published works.  For an editor to miss them is shameful, I think.)

I heard it comes with the appropriate modding tools, or that it'll be readily available shortly after release.

The book's publisher will be making a formal announcement at the end of the Summer where there will be a lot more details.

We would like to have an extreme edition or whatever of Elemental that includes the book. We'll see.

Presumably if there's some "extreme edition" we'd be able to modify our pre-orders for it?
