Reference for Economy Calculations?

Hi, Folks,

I'm going back through my paces here with GCII, and I'm getting a bit confused on the economy, specifically on spending.  It seems to me that there's some inconsistency on the calculation for costs, but maybe I'm not understanding how it works.  If I have a planet that is freshly colonized, it has a total possible generation of 24 industry points, with each of the global sliders set to 1/3 (33%).  That means I get 8 points for military and 8 points for social projects.  So far, so good.  But as I add factories, I get more industry points, and the calculation doesn't seem to keep up.  When I have 3 more factories, I get 12 more industry points, which should then be 12 social points (with the same slider settings) and 12 military points.  What I actually see on the planet is 10 military points and 12 social points.  Is there someplace that the actual math behind these calculations is laid out so I can understand it a bit better?  There's obviously other factors coming into this (I don't know the actual influence of morale, for instance).  Any references out there on how everything relates?  I haven't found any such references with a casual search through the forums.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't answer your question, at least to the detail that you're taking it, but I didn't want to leave your post without any replies. Sadly some of the best folks to answer your question haven't been around in awhile. In particular I'm thinking of Wyndstar and Iztok Bitnec. Sole Soul is another very good resource for things like this, but I haven't seen him around in a bit either.

I did a quick search and found one thread that might be useful to you. Try Production explained - how various bonuses apply. You might also just try using a google search with the site search key "site:forums.galciv2.com" along with terms like "economy", "income" or "production". Adding in a "Wyndstar" and/or "Iztok" term might help narrow the search as well.

One thing you should specifiy is the version of the game that you're playing since it definitely makes a difference whether you're playing DL, DA or TA.

Another thing you need to be a bit careful of is that it's a small difference between an increase in production being spread between 12 military points and 12 social points versus 10 military points and 12 social points. For one thing this could solely be due to rounding. For another thing you likely have a military production bonus that's noticeably different than your social production bonus.

The entire production/income/economy thing has been the topic of numerous threads over quite sometime but these are usually things that aren't completely and simply documented and generally need someone with considerable experience in the game to deduce the explicit details from what is generally known or published in the Wiki which is another good source of data.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks, Mumblefratz, I'll check out those references.  And, it looks like I might also be doing a little windowed playing with a spreadsheet program open as well. ;)

Thanks again,

well there are many variables, planet quality, planet type (toxic, normal, aquatic, etc). Spies also down your industry. Also some buildings have a penalty for some areas. Like for example the Slave Camps have a -2 penalty to influence. maintainence costs may play a part, also population is a BIG factor.

I think there are more but I can't list them. lets just say you need a computer to calculate it all..
