Invisible mouse!

Hey!

So I just bought Demigod and, upon starting it, found that it doesn't update the mouse cursor. I see a cursor image that doesn't move and I can handle the menus if I fly blind and just watch the buttons highlight, but this is obviously a less than good situation.

A bit of googling reveals that this can be fixed by running in windowed mode, which it indeed can - only that when I switch to windowed, the game runs in a window that's bigger than my screen (running at 1360x768) and can't be resized to be less enormous.

Running Win7 RC1 64bit with all current updates on a Geforce 8800GT with the most recent (06/05/09) drivers. Any pointers?

Thanks!

Running Win7 RC1 64bit

Have you tried running it on a OS that is supported by the game?

I generally(strongly) recommend dualbooting with a full release of Windows while trying out a pre-release version of Windows.

No offense Dash but that's not fixing the problem, it's postponing fixing it to a later time.

I run W7 RC too and have no significant problem. Only my sound has pops and static in the menus and while playing the tournament victory "you are now a god" video, not during fights ingame. I have not posted a thread for this nor have I looked for a solution as I have a Creative driver and well.. everyone that ever owned one will know what I mean..

But that does not mean you should not try to catch and fix the problem before hand. If you wait till W7 goes retail (which it almost is already) then you still have to find the problem. If you try to find it now you might have it fixed already when W7 goes retail. Sure it might be windows' problem, but why wait to find out?

I thinks that's easy to answer... why sould the SD suppot, support a beta.

It doesn't have to be a problem of the game... There are still bigger problems than looking into problems with a non supportet OS that isn't even retail.

If you mean the netcode, those are two very different teams handling it.

I'm not saying they should support a beta OS, Windows 7 is not beta anymore, it's RC, but I won't go into semantics. No company will support beta software officially, because in certain countries that gives the customers rights. However, that does not mean they shouldn't be looking into it yet. It's what TechNet was invented for, so devvers can learn and test their code on beta OSs so that when Windows does go retail they have a fix for the problem already. Every devver knows this, and so does Stardock. The fact that Windows 7 is not retail yet does not mean they shouldn't be looking into the problem.

I still agree that the TS should try it on another OS first. But simply saying "we won't look into it because W7 is RC" does not make sense.

Downloaded demo to try this game out.   Have this invisible mouse issue.  I see a frozen cursor on the screen and can move around an invisible one.

Windows 7 Home Premium Retail.  Latest official AMD/DELL drivers for Mobile 4670.

Trying beta 9.9 drivers from AMD.

How do I go into windowed mode?

Does the retail version have a patch that fixed this?

You can define the windowed mode in the game options. You can also try do edit the \My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod\Game.prefs file and change the line
Code: c++
  1. primary_adapter = '...'
to
Code: c++
  1. primary_adapter = 'windowed'

Regarding the original post (if he still needs help): you can also try to edit the Game.prefs file and edit the block which looks similar to this one:

Code: c++
  1. Windows = {
  2.     Log = {
  3.         y = 413,
  4.         x = 790
  5.     },
  6.     Main = {
  7.         y = -4,
  8.         x = -4,
  9.         height = 847,
  10.         maximized = true,
  11.         width = 2700
  12.     }
  13. }

Set x and y to 10 for example, width to 1200, height to 700 and maximized to false. Then start the game. The window should appear within your Desktop's boundaries. Then you can simply maximize it again.

In every case: make a backup of your Game.prefs before editing!

Thanks.  Failed to get beta driver installed.

Windowed mode is not an option in the demo.  Settings it in the prefs file did work and now the in game curser moves with the mouse.  It doesn't account for the start bar in windows 7, but i hid that and should be able to at least try the demo out.

Does the retail version fix mouse issues like this?

What do you mean with "it doesn't account for the start bar in Windows 7"?

Could have been start bar or aero.  Hid the bar and disabled aero (transperancy to start bar and application title bar).

When i maximized it in windowed mode with those enabled it put the little menu that is at the top of the screen in the application title bar, and had items offscreen under the start bar.

Played a game.  Pretty interesting... now just wondering if this mouse issue is fixed in retail as i don't want to play in windowed mode.

Root cause found.

Windows 7 DPI scaling.  I have a 15.6 1920x1080 screen, so had the DPI set to one of the quickset options (%150).\

Set it to 100% and 125% and the mouse works fine in game.

I'll play a little while full screen and see about picking up this game ;)

So I'm having the same issue here (Win7 Enterprise 64bit). Any thoughts on fixing the DPI scaling issue at any point? I'd rather not have to reboot every time I want to play.
