Don't be fooled by the PR. Just like in the Media Player case, the DG Competition wants all middleware removed, i.e. the MSHTML.DLL. Microsoft already made the user application removable in IE7. What they have announced today is that they will not ship the user application as part of Win2007 in the in European Economic Area. Apparently it is working because even the mainstream press is reporting it. In fact, I just saw in it on television.
This will make it harder for the DG Competition to continue PR wise, but it is my expectation that they will continue anyway and not accept the voluntary measure, instead demand full removal of the IE rendering engine and all middleware.
