Elemental Community Rankings! Where do you fit in?

Elemental Community Rankings! Where do you fit in?

People who have been really helpful in the past from the community

Hey all,

The Elemental team will be 'pre-selecting about two dozen people who have been really helpful in the past from the community to be in' the first Elemental Beta.

After reading Denryu's post (Below) I wondered, How many active posters do we have?  How would they rank themselves and others? (But more importantly how would they rank me?).

Quoting Denryu,
So two dozen people that have the inside track +~76 others... hopefully the people that are active on the forums own at least some of the other games - we ALL own GC or GC2 amirite? Are there even 76 active people on the forums? (In the EWOM sections?) I think all of our chances are pretty good...

My question for the forum dwelers is, Who do you rank as the top 24 forum contributers and where do you fall (In or out of the top 24) in your mind?

I just want to say thank you to all the support (I feel embarrassed for the semi-praise)

Note: that two dozen may include people who rarely or never post, who've helped in testing in the past - maybe reporting a lot of bugs in other games, finding weird stuff, etc.

Honestly, I am a lot more bark then bite, and others would deserve to be on this list more.  I figure I'll have PLENTY of time to enjoy this game, especially since there is nothing on the horizon for me other then Elemental at this moment, unless KOF98UM comes out for XBL.  (huge fan of that game)

Hopefully i can convince my local pals to play some MP in this- I did convince all of them except one to get GCII, and they play WoW so getting them to play other stuff is a pain...

if you're talking about me, I gave that to you a while ago when our karma numbers were the same.  it was a responce in a way to our discussion about competing for karma.  It wasn't pity karma, it was a friendly pat on the back.

it was like climbing a mountain and we both happen to have stopped on ledges near each other and I tossed over a share of my brownies as a show of good faith even though we are racing to the top and the brownies might be all the sugar you need to beat me.

Trust an ursinophile to go and try making sugar a pirmary resource.

Ursinophile. I'll have to remember that one.

what exactly are you suggesting?

Wouldn't "honey" be more appropriate?   I was thinking along the lines of 'sugar = sugar rush = extra energy needed to get somewhere"   and I thought more people would relate to accepting sugar (like cookies and brownies) from a friend over say....   a protein bar, steroid, meal item that actually wolud be healthy.

I did want to point out (because I don't think its been done) that the 24 pre-selected sound to be in addition to the 100 randomly picked.  so were looking at ~124 people

And at least a few of the 24 should be playing a game together at some point (solam, I believe, suggested a number of the original elemental forum runners to have a game together once it was playable)

Hmm landi it really could be read either way - the 24 could be included in the 100 number or could be in addition to the 100. I hope you are right, the more the merrier and the better my chances!

I give my two coppers now and again. But I do not think I am that active.

But I do love you guys :p

Elemental is scheduled to go into public beta by June 2009. Players who pre-order the game will have the option to download beta builds via Impulse™. This enables them to give feedback, suggestions and even begin populating Elemental with their own creations via the integrated modding environment.

https://www.stardock.com/coming_soon/index.asp

Yeah, so I'll be annoyed if people get into this version of testing and all of the preorders don't.  I preorded this game and demigod.  I won't do it the next time if they don't follow through on what they post.

I'm cool if they delay the beta past june because its not ready.  I have no issue with that.  But selecting people based on forum activity is crap, when you post a policy that clearly states you need to preorder and if you do you are in.

So, either noone should get in or all of the preorders should get in.

Thats my take on it.

The original plan was beta 0 in June, beta 1 in August, possibly a limited alpha slightly before that. You can see that here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/345203

However, that was before Demigod's launch happened. Quite a few people got pulled over to deal with the issues there, and so things got delayed (delays in software? never heard of that! ). The new plan is to scrap beta 0 entirely. Have the limited alpha in June. Nothing has been said about beta 1, so that seems to still be on track for August. That post is here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/354834

They need to update their website that you order from then.  Because their website sure doesn't say that.

I think I'm an asshole, and extracting top 24 names from the forum posts would take too much effort.  Extracting them from my brain is out of the question.

yeah, but you consistantly put in your two coppers.  I don't think I've noticed any lengthy amount of time you've been absent from the forums and you've been here since the begining.

Personally, I'd feel like an asshole if I DID make a top 24 names.   Just because I know my opinion would be totally biased, especially once the 1st 10 or so had passed and I started just looking around for people who haven't pissed me off or gave me karma or something.  Then people that deserved to be on the top 24 would hate me because I neglected to notice how much they contributed.

Especially since I expect people like Sevenix and Horse Radish to be included because of their help in past games (I payed attention to Demigod, I wasn't really around for Sins original beta)

Let me just say that if I were to get in and not landisaurus or Sparta, I'd give my ticket up for one of them.

There are 7 people that I feel the same way about however I am 100% shure that Stardock will grant them each one of the 24 spots for thier contrabutions.

Due to Denryu's post I have been searching for fenhiro, Ynglaur, CapnWinky, Ron Lugge, kitkun's posts so I can read what I may have missed.

I'm mostly around the developers journals forum...  These days, I generally tend to avoid the circular arguments that erupt in the general forums prior to the beta release, it just feels... icky.  I follow the dev journals, but all the random chit-chat in the general forums just bores me.  I was shocked to make that list, I almost have to suspect I made it because Denryu somehow knows me from Sins / DG and knows that once the game gets 'out' I'll be really, really active.  Problem is, I don't recognize his name / avatar from there, so... who knows.

Someone talking about me?  :D

Jeeze, making a list of 24 people would be tough. I don't think I could do it. That said, if you combine all the lists that have been made already I think you'd have a pretty exhaustive list of the biggest contributors so far.

But I agree with Denryu:

Quoting Denryu, reply 3
I just feel that NO ONE is entitled to alpha, including myself, so I think all rankings aside, we should all be prepared to just keep our chin up and not get pissy if we are not included. Be happy for those that are, etc etc.

There are more than 24 people who 'deserve' a spot in the alpha, especially when you consider people that may not be active in the forums now but have consistently been good testers for Stardock. And now that we know for sure that there won't be an NDA, at least those of us who don't make it in still get to see the juicy pictures and read about it!

I have one account where all my purchased games are, but another account where I post on because my member no. is 800,000 =X

You can merge the two accounts if you want: https://www.stardock.com/support/registrations/

(try 2)

I always thought that this was a fan made list but that it was Stardock who would made the list based on people that had been usefull to them in previous betas plus (if there is place) some hand picked people from here due to usefullness plues the lotto. Wasn't all that implied in the thread? It's not like this a popularity contest to tell Stardock who they should pick up.:P

I just figured this request for lists was a lot like my surveys, kind of for kicks and giggles.

Well, I'm still not entirely sure if I WANT to be on the alpha and betas: GC1 was my first ever strategy game, and I only dug it out of my basement about a year ago..... I actually don't know how it got there, I certainly didn't buy it, and both my parents hate computer games and computers in general.....

A new fresh view point is always as welcome as a more seasoned one. And beta is like... for everyone who preordered? You are not obligued to beta test. You could just play and try to have fun. If along the way you would be so kind as to report bugs and things like that, even better. In any case, no one forces you to download the beta and try it, so don't worry.|-)

If the alpha release is under NDA, people who were selected will at least be able to say "I was selected"?

Maybe the devs will put some direction on alpha/beta users. They can say they need testing this, or that feature, and ask feedback about functions, bugs or errors. Knowing what testers are doing and telling them what to do is more effective IMO.

Exactly.  My only connection to Stardock is that I buy way too much stuff they sell.
