Sim speed :/

I have a dual-2.41 processor, 2 gigs of memory, and an 8800 with 320 megabytes of ram, everything is on the lowest settings... and I still usually have the lowest sim times in a match, often dipping into the negitive in the larger maps.

I'm way above the reccomended hardware, which suggests to me I ought to play with maxed settings without a hitch. I've heard something about turining sound off entirely, but... jeez, unless I totally don't understand the reccomended hardware suggestions, I should be able to play the game with decent looking textures and some sort of sound. What's up? x.x

Old sound drivers have crippled some players' performance from the little I've read.  Whether you have onboard sound or a sound card, make sure you have the very latest drivers.  /nosound should be a last resort.

There's a link to it to at least test if the drivers don't work out.

What I don't get is that I have a 4.25ghz quadcore, gtx 295 overclocked, 8 gigs of ram, etc, and occasionally my simscore dips down to ~8 and someone else in the game will have 9, and I ask what they have and they have a 2.xx dual core or 3ghz dualcore or whatever.  It's not a constant thing but it happens occasionally and makes little sense to me.

Does this actually become a problem for you? I'm not sure I've ever seen a game full of 9's, even in 2v2's.

He's being sarcastic, but I'm serious. If I have above the reccomended settings I should be able to play the game without slowing everyone to a crawl, right? If this is a well known issue I'd think it should count as a pretty serious bug...

I assume you refer to your graphics card when you say 8800? Nvidia GeForce 8800? The game should work beautifully on that, so this is an interesting concern. However. Sound cards are in fact an issue. By some act of All-Father, I can play it with an onboard, but many people cannot. Furthermore, just like a graphics card's drivers, sound card drivers are a huge issue. I suggest you try disabling your sound or updating your drivers and seeing if that's where the problem lies. If that doesn't work, could you test your rig out in Single Player? I'd like to know the results, as I've had no problem with a 9600.

Oh, also, I know this is a bit repetitive but it helps with some cases.

Start->Run->dxdiag

Check what your computer is listing as your graphics card and sound card. It may have the wrong idea.

He has a 8800gts 320MB version which is the worst out of the 8800 series. Demigod should still fly on low/medium settings.

To the Op > I am gonna guess your OS has just gotten sluggish and or you have a lot of background aps running. Maybe it is time for a fresh start? (or atleast go into msconfig and turn off all un-nessecary startup items)

Just as a point of reference for the 8800, I'm on a 7900GTX and have all settings maxed with 2X AA.  Don't recall ever seeing my simspeed lower than 7, but it's possible.  Regardless, I'm almost always with the highest on both teams.

I have plenty sim speed in single player, but in multiplayer I still often dip into the negitives with everything on low. I seem to have a "Realtek AC97" sound driver, and although I reformatted a few months ago, the last driver update was in 2006, so I think it's the "newest" version. :P I'll try disabling the sound, but... well, I hope this gets fixed, if that fixes it. Also I disabled a bunch of startup junk, thanks for the tip.

Yeah ive had that happen to me. I have a quad-core and i have friends with dual-cores and sometimes they would beat me. Odd huh? :P.

Maybe its because we are running 64-bit? Ionos

It is not strange at all guys. Most programs/games are not designed for quad cores. They are programed for dual cores, hence why a higher clock rate dual core will out perform a frequently lower clock rated quad core.

Now 4.25GHz is pretty high and I am not sure why you dip to 8sim speed some times. I am jsut running 2.8GHz Q6600 and I dip to like 8sim at the lowest.

True but i think this game is suppose to support it...

It is surprisingly hard to make use of multiple cores, I did some multicore programming in a parallel architechture class I took two years ago. So much of programs tend to be serial in nature. THis game may use multiplecores some times, but I am willing to bet most of it is still pretty serial.

You definitely want to check again.  The latest update I'm seeing on Realtek's site for Vista and Windows 7 is March of this year.  For XP and older, October of last year.

Mmm. Quite frankly, if your computer is running slowly in general, it may be time for my favorite reccomendation:

Reformat your hard drive
