I can't seem to install Impulse

Having a lil problem. Trying to install Impulse, but I get this error;

"This product requires at least Windows XP. Setup cannot continue."

I tried both the web and full install. Same thing. Obviously, I have XP. I have my Windows services cut down to a bare minimum, I'm thinking that may be the reason... Anyone able to assist on this?

I think you're correct in your reasoning. Start putting them back, one by one until you can download Impulse, or just put them all back and see quickly if that's the reason.

Does Stardock Central still work?

It does, but applications are not being updated through SDC anymore.

I don't use XP but maybe someone who does can tell you what services are needed to install and run Impulse. You shouldn't need to enable any more than required for it,which can't be many.

=/

So does anyone know what service specifically I need to run?

OR! Could it be because I don't use Explorer as a shell...

From Impulse system requirements.

Windows XP (32-bit) /
Vista (32-bit & 64-bit)
Internet Explorer 7.0
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0

For starters, you will need the  .NET Framework sevice running ,and probably BITS as well.

I have .net framework, and I turned BITS on, no such luck.

Come to think of it, I think I had this problem before, I think it was with Visual Studio. I just ended up giving up.

That is most likely your problem.  Can you fire up explorer.exe to install Impulse then close it?

Ill have to try next time I restart, in the middle of something now. Hopefully it'll work.

Alrighty, tried it with Explorer as my default shell, still didn't work. So it has to be a service... or something goofy I'm overlooking...

I think it's a good idea to open a ticket when you have a problem. If it gets solved in the Forum first...all well and good, but sometimes they don't, and a lot of time can be lost in getting the pros to look at it.

Could you be more specific about what is happening?  Are you getting any errors?  If so, what are they, and when do they occur?
