Changing AI settings

Hi guys.

While playing GalCiv I find my self alot of times reaching a point mid game where the AI is not that chalanging any more and wishing that I could rais the Difficulty setting to bring life back to my game, I#m offcourse talking about games that start with lower difficulty settings.

Anyway would it be possible to guve us the options to raise the AI midgame?

I'm mainly thinking about 2 methodes to this:

1. the player could change upward the difficult level midgame and won't be able to change it back.

2. While setting the game there will be an option to gradually raise the AI level through the game from a player chosen starting point.

What do you guys think?

The biggest problem is most  AI programming has the AI opponents always targeting the weakest opponent which is good for the early stages of a game.  Unfortunately by middle and late game the AI opponents are still targeting the weakest opponent which usually results in the strongest player crushing each remaining weak opponent one by one as they fight amongst themselves.

Ideally the middle and late game stages should have computer opponents leaning more and more towards joining forces to attack the strongest opponent as seen by humans within multiplayer games.  For example if one player owns 40% of the realm the remaining 4 opponents should join forces to stop this large super empire.

I'm not sure that is entirely true.  In Civ 4 they target other players for a number of reasons, which often mean that AI are targeting people other than the weakest opponent.  Obviously the AI isn't going to attack somebody against whom they would totally be crushed, which is why it might seem that way.

I do hope this game has that level of AI complexity.  but frogboy seems pretty sure of his AI abilities.

Warderin raises an issue I have dealt with in the past. My own example:

I play civ4 a lot, usualy in the Fall From Heaven 2 mod. I play on Deity difficulty to keep things spiced up. What happens too frequently is that when there are 3 or 4 empires on the continent (including my own), they will all band on me, even though I am not the strongest one.

In reality, or rather, with real players, the tactic you will most often see is everyone banding on the strongest oponent.
