Hotseat and PBeM but still Hosted

A lot of peoplein the "Getting Back to Elemental" post (link below) have lamented the perceived loss of hotseat if Stardock hosts all multiplayer games.  Is it possible to do one of the following:

  1. Allow one player ("user") to play multiple factions in the same game.  Ensure every other player ("user") knows this, however.
  2. Allow multiplayer games to be hosted locally, but not to allow non-local users
  3. Allow players to submit turns to Stardock's servers via email

A couple notes:

  • #2 doesn't really address LAN parties
  • I'm unsure what the inherent value of email is as a transport mechanism, but several people seem to want it.  I think the real requirement is asynchronous turn submission, and simultaneous execution of turns.

As always, thoughts and feedback are welcome.

for 3, there would likely need to be a turn limit (in hours or days).  Simultaneous turns would be pretty manditory I'd say.  you could download the previous turn(s) actions at any time, and you'd have to submit your turn actions in the amount of time provided for the turn (say you have 24 hours to submit a turn, you could submit your turn anytime during that 24 hours).

I vote strongly towards no. 1.   Not just for hotseat games, but also because its fun to play 2 'players' at once, perm alliance style.   I've done that with friends in Advance wars before (we each play 2 COs on a 4 player map).   games that have split screen or hotseat multiplayer should allow it with online play as a general rule.  At least for non-ladder play (games that are unranked in whatever ranking system is available)

Wait, does Elemental have hotseat?

Haven't been around for a some time.

Only form of multiplayer i'm interested is Hotseat (when we're talking about strategy games).

I still say that this entire "Everything will be hosted by us and when there's problems or you don't have direct access to us, you're screwed, muahahahahaha, ACHTUNG!"-idea is poppycock! We'll have multiplayer, but not really.

And yeah. Still a dealbreaker. I'd like a definite answer to the issues raised before I finally pre-order. I'm almost kinda glad I haven't, yet.

We're not sure. Hence the topic of this thread. You should check the link in the OP.

I agree an official and more detailed response regarding multiplayer should be provided.

If you have any questions, let us know. We’re always around. :)

There's multiple topics with different multiplayer questions...  hopefully we'll have some clarification soon.
