Can the AI play for you?

I was wondering if there was a way to use cheats to make the AI player play as your civilization.  I know how to change your civilization with another player's by using control + shift + N, but I was wondering if I could have the AI play as my civilization while I watch.  I was hoping to be able to observe the AI's actions and improve my skill through those observations while enjoying the apparent political carnage that results from high-level AI players killing each other.

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes you have to select the AI's planet and press ctrl+shift+Z twice to 'hotseat' to the AI's race. I've had instances where if you only do it once, you're not playing any race. At that point you could hit 'end turn' and everything will go automatically from there. Since in that state you don't have units or planets to attend to, it auto-ends your turn. Most cases you can't select anything and the only way to end it is to hit ctrl+alt+del and end GalCiv2.

The devs can make the game play all by itself, but I'm pretty sure that the public cheat functions don't enable anything closer than the hotseat workaround Kontana describes.

Anywho, I'd love to see someone correct me on this point, even it it just "well, that finally works with update 2.xx."

Thank you anyway.  It moves a bit too quickly for my computer.  However, I had not known you could take over as a computer race.  It's quite funny to stomp around as the Dread Lords.
