User Operator Error example: i'm a Network Engineer and even i cant play online

User Operator Error 1015

Because of my job i have a pretty sophistcated network setup at my house. i have cascading juniper firewalls that allow me to VPN connect to my clients as well as my data center and corporate offices. I have in the past configured my routers to pass the xbox-live open-NAT test, route the VOIP network from the office to my home, as well as play SinsOASE online with no problem.

then i go out and get demigod a few days after it was released. it uses simillar ports to the ones used in SIns, im confident it will work since i am after all a networking guru responsible for miles of pipe and hundreds of nodes.

NOT!!!

so i have been pounding my head trying to get this to work for weeks now. Under my breath cursing ou the developer and thinking i should have just used a torrent instead of forking over my cash! buying into the hype that the Demigod Online is hosed and they have made a huge mistake putting out this game. even after the recent updates even proxy only stuff doesnt work!!

then last night i was trying to VNC control my macbook-pro which is my gaming computer that has demi, sins and bunch of other games on it. and i cant connect. hmmmm im putting in the right ip address, its the same one i configured the demigod settings on my router x.x.x.23 .... what gives?? so i get off my rear end and walk over to my home office to see whats going on.

LO&BEHOLD the macbook ip address is x.x.x.24 and has been for months now after confirming in the logs on the DHCP server DOOOOH!!!!

so at 1015pm 5/26/09 i logged a "user operator error" and played my first skirmish online and got spanked! what a wonderful world.

This goes to show that even with the most complicated network scenarios, Demi online does work and it works well. if you are having a problem playing online. you should look at your setup first before railing on the Developer.

I lol'd......thanks for that!   hehe

(we all have stories like that I'm sure..........mine is somewhere along the lines of clicking "shutdown" on a remote DC instead of "reboot" :P)

oh that sucks ... we disbaled the shutdown option for all our remote DC's so that wouldnt happen anymore. someone accidentally shutdown out primary exchange server after some updates and as a result 4 other exchange servers stopped working!
