Seasons and Weather

Is there any current plan to have seasons and/or weather in the game?  I think seasonality in particular could add to the strategic depth of the game.  The risk, of course, is that everyone has "boring time" during winter (or months with mud that slow down army movement, etc.), but there are probably ways around that.

What is the desired time scale for the game, anyways?  An army can travel a long way in a month or three...

Except if some faction or units have awesome bonuses in winter that would put everyone on edge during this otherwise slow season.
Yes, I'd like seasons too.

there is also the possibly of spells affecting and taking advantage of the weather

we of the forum have talked about weather a few times.   Haven't heard anything from Stardock yet.   I suspect it would be after the 1st few betas at the soonest (just because everything else I can think of with weather effects, didn't have it until either A: late production, B: a few patches after release, or C: from expansion packs or sequels

No worries. I've been around since the day the boards went public and I'm definitely an outsider from at least a few POVs.

Stardock could cancel multiplayer tomorrow and I wouldn't blink; I think that a game no one can win and can go on indefinitely is superior to any zero-sum game; and I want a TBS with options that let me play with economies that don't use currency. At least one of those has got to sound like heresy to at least a few folks around here.

no no, I was simply saying " we of the forums" to ensure there was no miscommunication on who "We" represented.   "we" around here could me I have been talking to the developers.  Maybe to a friend down the road, or something like that.  By adding "of the forums" I intended to suggest that the discussion could be found in the forum somewhere.   And it certainly was not meaning to suggest that you were not to be included, just that the forum have had the discussion before (but not the forums themselves, since they are a medium and unable to actually have a discussion)

Its a pet-peeve of mine when somebody says "we have been doing this" when "we" is not clear by context.

I visit this forum at least three times every day so I consider myself part of the furniture (that one that is there but you barely notice).

Weather with real effects over gameplay would be sweeeeeeeeeet. As many other ideas out there. Of which many won't be used for many different reasons including budget/time combo.:(

I must say though, wintersong, I hardly recognize you with the demigod avatar.   Everytime I see it I'm like "who is this person, oh its Wintersong"  because I'm so used to your older avatar(s)

If we do have weather, I'd love to have "mud" as an effect on certain terrain types.  So much for your heavy cavalry...

Lucky me that Sedna avatar is quite unique here then.XD Except a few cases here, I don't bother with the avatar (or the grey silouette) and always check the user name.

Ditto. ^_^'

Anyways, I'd love to see seasons and weather in Elemental. However, I'd like to see something other than standard. I mean... what if there were two summers in a year? The month of Grune? Octeday at the end of a week?

Oh wow, until you actually said that it was Wintersong in this post, I just scruffed it of as "That new guy".

Didn't even bother to check the name. I just assumed it was someone I didn't know. :D

Luckily, bears would not be hampered by this mud as much as horses.
At least until someone exclaims "That's not mud!".

XD  Do ye of the forum suggest me to change back to my old avatar for easiness of recognition?

*wonders where the old avatar is*

*wonders where the "Brad posing as a MoM character" avatar is too*

It would be nice to see enemies in the mud just to cast a spell and turn the mud into stone.}:)

It's exactly this sort of thing that's had me wanting at least one Metaphysics dev journal since Brad's first one on mechanics for mundane combat units.

Maybe the name of the game itself has helped me form some excessively high expectations, but that blunt fact combined with other things like regular talk about 'world-wrecking' magic and the occasional reference to dragons as being a sort of 'force of nature' has made me hope that Elemental's magic system will have some direct and interesting connections to how the game models the physical environment for humble grunts in a battle.

I want the game to give me one of those moments where I (the channeler) could have burned the bulk of an enemy force hiding in a forest, *if* I'd had Fire magic in my stats or nodes or whatever, but would leave me begging for fools in a mudbath because I focused my magic only on Earth and Water.

I hope we see some type of weather system added...  developing the weather system to include seasons would be more difficult, but should still be possible.   In any case I hope we do see a weather system

Hey, no problem. I'm not that easily insulted even if, in retrospect, my post does sound kinda angry.
You'll have to admit that "we of the forum" sounds a bit like the voice of the hivemind.
