Can't create Direct3D

Freshly installed game, hasn't even ran once

I just bought/installed Demigod and am getting the 'can't create direct3d' error;  Since the game has never been run, a game_prefs file has not been created in the Demigod folder, so I can't change the games resolution.

I have an Nvidia 6800 GTS with freshly updated drivers, and a 22" Samsung Syncmaster 2253BW (also updated).

Any help on how to solve this issue would be appreciated.

Can you please follow this link in Internet Explorer:

http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/enumerate_startup.bat

save the file, run it, and attach the log file (named startup.log) it generates on the desktop to an e-mail to [email protected]?  Can you also please go to Start->Run(or Start Search in Vista) and type 'dxdiag' and hit enter. Once everything loads, please click the "Save all information" button and attach the output file (called DxDiag.txt) to the same email.

Also, make sure you're using the most up to date version of DirectX which can be downloaded here:

Response number two has been sent; please check your email.

For anyone else reading this post it's a good idea to make sure you have your video drivers and DirectX versions up to date as well as all critical windows updates and service packs installed.

If you could you post or PM me your ticket number, I can look into it for you.

You could also try just deleting the Game.Prefs file and then try loading the game.  That should set the game back to the default video settings.

Game.prefs file is found in Document\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod

This solution worked for me.

Yessir, that is the solution to one instance of the 'can't create direct3d' error in which the Game.Prefs has been corrupted or the resolution set isn't supported by the video card or monitor.  In some cases though it's a driver issue that needs to be updated or a newer version of DirectX that needs to be loaded.  The error also comes up if your video card doesn't meet the minimum requirement to run Demigod.

No, your integrated graphics adapter does not meet the minimum requirements.

I always feel sorry for people that bought the game but don't have the hardware to run it, but also I think "WTF does anyone even READ the minimum requirements?"

I have the same problem and scenario. I do however believe my rig meets the requirements. I've tried different resolutions before starting, as you'll notice I run 8x6 because it's on a 50 tv. I don't think that's the problem. I play Fallout 3 on max settings smooth. Maby I'm missing something? I've done a dxdiag, here's what I have.

The minimum vertical resolution is 720. This might be the problem in your case.

I have tried steping up the resolution one notch at a time with no success. Damn frustrating looks like an awesome game.

Next thing you can try is a clean reinstallation of your GPU drivers, using the latest drivers of course and Driver Cleaner.

Can you help me?, I have the same error.
I have the information, just send the email, to find a solution.
sorry for my English.

The minimum resolution for Demigod is 1024x768. If the display you're using does not support that or higher, it will fail to initialize with a D3D error. Most LCD televisions should work fine though as the native res on a 720p set is generally 1366x768.

Yeah it displays that and higher. Going to try another clean install if GPU drivers with another utilty. I'll post the results. Like I said I play Fallout 3, battlefield, etc.  on high res wide screen, with settings maxed. It's always something simple. I'll keep pluging at it and get back to you.

I used driver cleaner and installed the latest drivers, only to get the same error. I'm not sure of what to do at this point.
