So I'm seeing an article in the newspapers today talking about how there's a possible family squabble going on between the Moran brothers, one a candidate for office, the other already the U.S. Representative (in the U.S. Congress) for a portion of Virginia. The potential squabble is over where the prisoners that are currently housed at Gitmo should be sent to, with Congressman Jim Moran having already gone on record saying (basically) that the people of his district shouldn't have issues with having the prisoners moved there and his brother (the candidate for Governor of the state of Virginia) Brian Moran taking a wait and see approach before going on record, apparently hoping that President Obama won't make it difficult for him by trying to put the prisoners in the state.
I believe it was Secretary of Defense Gates that already had gone on record as saying that if he announced movement of the prisoners (uh, detainees) at Gitmo to any where in the 50 states that he'd probably be faced with 50 separate bills blocking movement of the prisoners to any of those states. Apparently even though we have plenty of wannabe representation for those poor detainees in the halls of the Congress, just because those reps think those detainees deserve their rights under the constitution (which, uh, extends to citizens, not necessarily to non-citizens) that doesn't mean those people should be housed back home with the voters. Yet another case of NOT IN MY BACKYARD-ism. You see, it's the voters that elected these clowns that are screaming that they don't want the scum of the earth to be housed back home with them, but at the same time those folks are also screaming at the politicians to give those people their rights and offer them a fair trial, etc.
So... I have a solution. We need Sarah Palin to save us.
She needs to step forward an make a magnanimous gesture: offer to take these prisoners and house them in her great state. She should be able to find a nice place for them there that is far removed from most of the civilized people of her great state. Preferably a very cold and desolate place. A place that would let those detainees, many of whom are from hot climates, enjoy cold weather for a change. A place that is so far away from the lower 48 that if they ever escaped they'd have to trek thousands of mile across the great white North just to even come close to a border crossing into the U.S.
Ms., make that Governor, Palin can make a great deal with the Obama administration to get a nice prison camp built in her state. That should stimulate the economy there (at least temporarily, while it's being built), and then she can sit back and collect checks from the federal government for keeping those detainees fed, clothed and housed there.
Come on Sarah Palin, step up to the plate and smack this ready made grand salami right out of the park.
