Annoying camera follows ships around.

I'm new to this game and I like it a lot. I am playing the vanilla version right now, not Entrenchment. I have played a lot of Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander and I like the option in these two games to select a ship/plane etc... and THEN hit a button to have the camera follow/track it around. But in SoaSE the camera seems to have a mind of its own. The most annoying part is right in the middle of a big battle the camera will start tracking some ship and will start scrolling the screen. I then have to hit a direction arrow or move the cursor to the edge of the screen to get it to stop tracking the ship.

Is there a way to have the camera NOT automatically track moving objects?

Go to your settings files and change a value

if in xp it is:

C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Local Settings\Application data\Ironclad games\Sins of a solar empire\Setting

open the camera.settings in notepad and change

zoomToCursorLocksOnMovingEntities TRUE
zoomToCursorSnapsToEntities TRUE

to both being FALSE

and in vista

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\

(someone please verify)

or you could reduce the distance to snap it is in the same file

distanceToEntitySnap 100.000000

I hate the zoom to cursor option and always have it disabled.

From my experience selecting a shit does NOT cuase the camera to automatically track that ship.  You have to select it twice or press space bar.  However I'm not sure how the camera behaves with zoom to cursor enabled.

It behaves like it is described, if the target is moving, when you zoom in the camera will move with it

First, TYVM Mooster for the fix.  This should be something in the Options window.

Second, it behaves exactly like you described.  When I'm monitoring a battle, I am constantly zooming in/out to different parts of the battle.  That's when it happens.  After I finish zooming into the area I want, the screen will start scrolling.

The zoom to cursor option in the options window is a bit different.  I like that option.  When I zoom out to the solar system view (C key by default), I just move the cursor over the planet I want then zoom back in using the scroll wheel.

Personally I rather turn off the using the mouse to strafe the camera instead. I find that if you want to move to a different part of the screen you end up moving the screen by itself, so I turn it off

and don't be afraid of playing around with the files the worst you could do is to mess up a setting file, delete it and then restart rofl.

Sorry to dig up this old post from the past, how do i do this for Rebellion on Windows 7?

I hate the auto camera/chase mode/whole screen moving when centered on a ship.
