Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse

Lately I've been talking about how I'd get my computer out of storage, set it up and do stuff. That isn't going to happen. My 'friend' and I use the term with disdain, decided to bail. No word to me , his landlord or to anyone. As a result I lost my computer, monitor, all the software and programs purchased from Stardock, my books including the rough drafts of a novel I'm trying to write. Basically everything I had left. I spoke to the landlord this morning and he told me everything went to the dump! Somebody out there got themselves a thousand dollar machine gratis and it's my fault for trusting this so called friend.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

I can't say when I'll be able to get back into skinning as my prospects at this point are a bit grim. However...I'm still coming here because at least I have real friends at the WC. Thank god for guys. Just blowing off steam.

that just sucks...

all the software and programs purchased from Stardock,

support may be able to help you out on that one...

I don't know about your state, but in Nevada,SC and Illinois, landlords can lock you out but must keep your property for 30 days before disposal. Of course, the past due rent and any damages must be paid before your property can be released to you. If 30 days hasn't elapsed, you may want to consult with your local authorities on the laws that apply in your case. Good Luck.

When it rains it pours unfortunately, on the brightside, nowhere to go but up right?

Oh, I'm SO sorry.  I think pretty much everything you had eventually can be replaced but the novel....(my husband is standing right here, and he said he'd hunt him down and kill him, but that's just a bitter Native American talking.)

It's bad enough losing everything, but to know you've been betrayed like that.  You have my deepest condolences. :(

So sorry to hear that Uvah!

he said he'd hunt him down and kill him

Thanks guys. I appreciate the thoughts. If I thought that would do any good but...unfortunately I can't do that. One consolation though. The guy's a boozer. He'll get his someday. And you're right about one thing...the only way to go is up. Watch...when I do look out because I'll be comin'. (Little braggodicio...lol)

It's sad friend. Wish you lots of good fortune.

Wizard's correct. Check the law in whichever state you live in. Small Claims Court should be able to help but you have no standing without your "friend's" testimony.

I sympathize with your plight...perhaps some other friend knows where he went. You can also do a "skip trace" on him. He'll have to use a credit card or Social Security number sometime.

Well, I do wish you luck, and hope you can recover soon, Uvah.

No one ever should have that happen to them, but unfortunately it does happen, and more than probably we even know.

I'm going to ask the question that hasn't be asked yet, and I apologize before hand, but how sure are you that the person just decided to bail?  Have you been able to determine that it's not a case of foul play?  How much time has gone by since they were last seen?

Sorry about the questions, but when someone goes missing you do want to be sure.

The question is a valid one. I spoke to the landlord. He has been after this guy for back rent (2months). He said a note was left inside saying that he should either toss or sell whatever was in the house. If he had come to me first I could've gotten my stuff out of there. Even the landlord said if I had come to him he would've held it for me. Landlord's a nice guy but too little too late. Anyway...I'm kinda lookin' at it like this. I know I'm going to have to start from scratch so here's what I'm thinkin'.

I get settled right...save up mine pennies. Buy me a sweet system with some bells and whistles (get the rest along the way). Then put in what programs and such I d'ld. Then let the games begin. I have to laugh:rofl: because crying over spilt milk as it were is is counterproductive. Best to put my energies into doin' stuff to get it right this time around. You have no idea how much I want to get into more than just rainies. Chompin' at the bit and all that good stuff. Thanks so much for your thoughts. You guys ROCK!!!  :w00t: :karma: this last one for everybody.

Your positive attitude is an inspiration, Uvah.  Thank you.

Others would have ranted and raved...you are wise enough to "let go" of it....I'll try to remember this lesson when I'm faced with loss.

Thanks, Uvah...really. :sun:

I agree, you have the right attitude and not much of anything can be done now.  Sure, you can try a lawyer but it sounds like this person doesn't have anything like money or assets to pay you with.

As was pointed out before you should be able to get those porgrams or software that you brought from Stardock back.

Hope your life takes you on a much better path now.

With everything bad that's going on with you at the moment, you still found time to give kudos to Chasbo for Azenisgismo. You got the right stuff bud. You'll come through this Uvah. I wish you all the best.

Thank you so much Philly0381, Thank you Gammeldansk. I still browse the galleries to see what all you guys are doing. There is some really awesome stuff out there. I'm trying to see it as incentive. When you see something you like and it really means something to you you do what you gotta do...right, right lol.

Dammm that suxs big time, can you have your friend charged for stealing?  cos as far as I kow in the eyes of the law, well  here anyways  when something like that happens you can be charged for it, just a thought O:)

Sounds bad - but as everyone here has mentioned... I do not think it was legal ... maybe?

Plus I almost bet he did not throw that pc away. Got to be some records you may have somewhere for serial numbers and such.

Think I'd be trying to look into it a bit more somehow or other.

Sad to hear the news no matter. Hope something good comes your way.

mrs starkers---I once tried to teach him how to access his e-mail. It took nearly four hours. Hard to do with someone who's so drunk he can barely speak. That's why he couldn't pay his rent or hold a job. Besides I found out I think a couple of days after the fact.

Shelbygt_the_car~!---No it wasn't legal and all the papers, receipts etc. were with it. I thought it was safe but trying to find out who hauled everything away...I don't know. Like I said it was a couple of days after. I do appreciate your kind words. Thanks
