Forever War

wimpy capital ships

I am new to SoaSE.

I am playing 1v1 on a small map vs AI

We are both TEC.

Are fleets are about the same size - 3-4 capital ships, 10-15 carriers, 20-30 frigates.

Battles seem long.  Capital ships engage each other, causing damage very slowly.  Is this right?  Am I missing something, or are capital ships in this game very poor at hurting each other?  I have fought battles where I simply rotated my capital ships out of the fight to repair, then back in again, in less time than it takes the next one in line to become severly damage.  LOL  Boring!  If one of us breaks off a fight, it is because the cruisers and frigates are taking a pound rather than any loss to capital ships.

To take out a capital ship quickly, focus all fire onto it. its shields will quickly fall and leave the hull wide open to destruction. also, fighters and bombers help a lot

Yes. This is the only time I micromanage; to focus all fire on an enemy Capital ship. With a fleet like that, you'll rip the Capital to shreds, andthe rest of the fleet can't cope without it's support and damage soaking.

Arent we forgetting shield mitagation? I would focus on the smaller ships. To be succesful in that regard you should check out the damage charts , see which ships are most effective against specific ships.

You can shrink their DPS by killing frigs, but if you kill the caps, the frigs are unprotected...  It is better to kill caps...

Play Vasari. Two words: Death Egg.

two more words... Power Surge.  Both the Kortul and Egg have massive anti-cap potential...

But the Egg literaly chews through capital ship's hulls. I dont think Power Surge could compete.

I took a Kortul (level 5), six skirmishers, and three assailants and killed a fleet of a Kol (level 4), 12 Cobalts, and 5 LRM's...

(I only had about 500 hull at the end of it and lost all the frigates except for one assailant, but the point is, PS is extremely powerful.

Kortuls can punch through any other cap and keep going.  If they hit level 6, volatile nanites destroys frigates...  Eggs do have the ability to deal massive DoT's, but the armor detriment doesn't have any real effect unless you focus fire.  Kortuls can devastate entire fleets, whereas Eggs can only kill one enemy at a time.
