Yes and have various new programs running fine here. Including Multiplicity Pro with Impulse.

No, I am going to wait untill it's released for retail sale.  I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium and can wait.

Here's a question I don't think I've seen ask or answered.  If you download the RC are you getting the upgrade for free or will you have to get a retail copy when it's released and load it?

No. I see no point in installing an OS that will "expire" since I won't have the money to purchase it when released and am perfectly happy with the OS I am using now. Also,I paid for ODNT Ultimate and wish to continue using and enjoying it. All of it.

Windows7 phones home automatically and will be shutting my computer off every two hours starting March 1,2010? No thanks Microsoft!

Wizard, you want to expand on this?  I don't think I've seen this mentioned by anyone. :S

I think is great that you can use a new OS for free for an entire year,  thanks Microsoft

The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

It expires March 1st 2010 and unless you remove it or purchase the full version it will reboot every 2 hours.

I didn't click the link because I'm not going to download the RC.  Oh well, that's something I won't have to put up with. :sun:

Hmmm, the !st of March 2010, oops, just when you are in the middle of doing your 2009 Taxes. :-"

So is this saying then that Win 7 is not going to be released in 2009? :S

I read that as saying that the final release will be before March 1st, 2010. So if you don't want to have interuption, buy a retail copy or remove it before then. If you don't, you'll have to put up with the 2 hour reboots until the RC does finally expire on June 1, 2010. What's the issue here? You can use a new OS for an entire year for free! That's a pretty good timeframe to decide if you like it or not imo. I'm with Diafragma, thanks Microsoft. :CONGRAT:

Well to be fair, this is not the retail release.  Otherwise they would be giving away a free copy of their OS.

I'm not downloading the RC but wouldn't that be a nice way to repay folks that were beta testing your piece of software?  I'm just saying what a nice jesture that would be, consumer good will and all. :-"

Of course the same question that comes up everytime a new version of an OS comes out is 'What's wrong with the one I'm using?'  Sorry.  Ooops I was going to delete that but hit the post button.

Oh, there is an 'edit button'.  I'm such a bad boy!  :O

Hmmm, nearly a 1 year fully functional trial. Not a bad deal at all!

I've downloaded both the x86 and x64 flavors and installed it on a domain pc (laptop). Unfortunately, neither Anti-Virus solution we use is compatible with it. (symantec endpoint 11 or Trend Micro Office Scan).

An alternative AV solution on this network is not an option at all. I don't see the AV Vendors breaking their backs to be compliant on a RC OS either.

Let's just hope it doesn't suffer the same vendor induced problems that Vista had.

This version of the beta is not restricted to a certain number of users.  Anyone that wants to can get it.  That would mean anyone could dl the RC, MS would give them a free copy and not get any money for the software.  Makes no sense.

It's already a nice jesture that they are allowing people to use the OS for AN ENTIRE YEAR.

Nobody seems to think that way about Stardock products?

I'm not a MS fanboy or anything like that. I'm just curious as to why people are so quick to judge them when other software companies don't give away their full RTM versions to everyone that beta tested their RCs.

No I will never download it. Not only this but also any release copy unless offered a discount in final retail version.

Resons: I don't like installing and uninstalling OS. I won't get any softwares or games for it now. It will not give me any nice experience.

Yes,it may be great for a lot of XP hold-outs ( the target group for Win7,imo)or those planning on buying a new computer in the near future. However,I dont fit into either of those categories. I have Vista, like it and will keep it until some point far off in the future when I go 64bit with a new rig. Then I will have to decide on staying with Vista or switching to whatever OS is "latest and greatest" By then it could be Windows 9 or 10.;)

I can't argue that point, they are trying hard to rebuild consumer confidence, this is a good start.

Agreed.  If you like what you've got, then that's fine.  I'm dual booting XP and Vista.  I happen to have an extra hard drive sitting around for my laptop that I'm going to install Win7 on and play around with...mostly because I can.  When it comes out retail, then I'll decide if I want to deep six Vista, which I probably will.  But until then, I'm going to play with the free version while I can.

My sincere apolgizes to those of you that I may have offended by my last couple of replies.

Sure we don't ask Stardock for free updates for beta testing, but then Stardock does offer a lot in free things for their subscribers.  Okay enought of that.

I'm in a similar situation as Wizard, thought my XP system died but It was brought back to life, though not before I purchased a new much more powerfull computer with Vista on it.  Hmmm, maybe both myself and Wizard need to get on MS's cycle of OS updates.  Yeah that's the ticket. :-"

Again folks, my apoligizes.  Just wait until we get closer to the actual release date for Win 7.  Seems just like yesterday we were reading the same stuff here about XP and Vista.  Ooops, there I go again! :O

no need to appologize Philly, my response may have came across differently than intended. :omg:

I didn't see anything in there that would have offended anyone.  I'm not offended.  But I did intend my replies to come across exactly as they did...*_*

i don't think anyone has said anything that needs to be apologized for, folks. as for win7, i have it as my primary os now. until yesterday, i had been running vista ultimate 64 since the day it was released and had been extremely happy with it all that time. granted, the only stardock apps i can currently use are cursor fx and objectdock plus but i'm sure other apps will be updated soon to allow useage on win7. it's only a matter of time. my vista 64 will now be installed on my laptop, YAY!

Well it would be nice of them to reward testers for installing and being monitored. They do that with other programs in the works. But it has been a while now since I've actually seen anything with direct rewards. Back when we beta tested Vista there was a reward program and I got a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate edition for free doing that testing.

I've been reading that MS is laying off more employees and cutting positions. So it is very unlikely to see much of the rewards programs as before.

If you are worried about installing ... then do not do so. But as I have here installed as a dual boot on my Vista machine. Seems this has a better install than the beta did. Having less problems with over run regs and files that write wrong.

But I'm very satisfied with having MS look at my systems here. They do it anyway... Plus this makes things work for some sort of progress at what I may want not just for this OS. But for the next one to come. Which I'm really waiting for Win 8 x64. Noticed one thing about the RC here. Seems to use a lot less memory and cpu than before. Plus it sure does not compare to what Vista use's. Big difference so far. Only thing is drivers for my mouse and keyboard are not supported. Sounds like Vista again almost. But the drivers they give you for those hardware items does work. Less all those fancy features you get from Logitech as such.

All in all I'll probably buy a copy of this when it is finally released. Seems a lot cleaner now than Vista was and I may need it for something. Like doing WB's for stuff and just overall testing of programs.

If you want to use a fair program for firewall and anti-virus ... Mcafee has a beta program - which is supported here on Win7. But you will have to signup for it if there is any openings. Not too sure about all that - but it works good for what I use here.

Anyway best of luck with the testing. Plus if you only have one computer and use it as your primary computer. Then I would be careful about testing and make sure you have a good backup image to fall back on.
