I'm putting forth some effort to understand what you're saying, Zyx.  It's not easy.  Are you saying the ToE site is some sort of private elitist thing?  Hardly.  We run an open forum.  Open in that we don't have censors and tend to allow whatever language the poster deems fit to write.

Within limits, of course.  Sexist or racial comments are cause for immediate ban without warning.  As it should be.

There are many different sub forums with some dedicated to GalCiv2 and others for other games.  You're free to peruse the site at your liesure.

I can't tell if you're offering to join the ToE empire either.  You appear to be.  I can probably speak for the majority when I say thanks, but no thanks.  No offense, but you're not exactly an organizational fit.  Besides, you're doing ok in the Kzinti Empire.

Metaverse is not competition for Empires to isolate themselves from the main reason we're all here; GC2 gameplay.

I can only measure up to great results recorded by players who mastered their "own" ways of scoring better since the joining to factor exist. Divide & Conquer, sort of reasoning.

Lemme try an example to somehow better explain;

In childhood we were playing baseball in the local suburban city park. To determine teams from the tall and the small kids participating. We'd pick a bat, and climb up fist over fists until the last could fit under the knockle; First choice, then next, etc.

I was always last - for a few days. Played catcher and slammed some home runs of my own *over time*. A summer later, guess in what order i was picked.

It's not that i was or became good, but that i joined the game for any team at random? Nope. The last fist on these later bats, looked around for a face not for how tall of a guy before deciding who they wanted as catcher. I grew up, as any teenagers.

KP or ToE... doesn't really matter to me. Unless you wanna talk rational statistics, call me algebra freak.

Yeah, I know it's just me, but there are others around, too, just single person empires.  I know, from my perspective, I loved the AltMeta right from the start, because I think the scoring mechanism for the Metaverse is totally screwy.  But I never bothered caring about the Empire rankings, since there's no real benchmark for comparison.

If two teams play a game (like some sport), there is a definite format to the game, and a way to fairly determine who wion.  With the empires in GC2, whichever empire gets more "points on the board" wins.  So just having more players, or players who submit more games, puts you ahead.  So you can't really say one empire is "better" than the other, just that they "likely" have more activity.  So, for me, the empires are just a fun vehicle for personal expression (Gerontocracy was an awesome idea, for instance.  I almost joined it when it was first formed, because I'm older than most here, I'm sure :)  They are also fun for general bragging rights (you suck, we rock, nobody means anything personal, kick back, share a beer, etc).  But there's no way to directly compare games and declare a winner.

The only ways I've seen to do that are the ZYW threads, and the MVL, which was an awesome idea.  There are agreed-upon formats, and only your best game counts, so there you can directly compare players against each other.

So, Gmoonii, don't worry about it too much.  Just enjoy the game, and do your best.  It's all about the fun

Interesting benchmark.  That's kind of what I was alluding to in my previous post about not being able to directly compare empires' scores.  You've broken it down to score/game.  I have also done this with my own games.  However, I took it a step further, and looked at score per hour (score based on how long it takes to play the game).  This is relevant for me, since I just don't have that much free time to play.  Of course, in this scenario, ZYWs are the winner, all the way, no way to touch them.  And I would guess (no way to know, since I'm not good enough to pursue it) that Mumblers, despite their high scores, actually fall pretty low on the score/hour curve, simply because they take so LONG to complete.

Another way to analyze the data you're looking at, would be to break all the scores into their AltMeta categories, and then compare score per game.   This makes sense on many levels.  ZYWs can never be higher that a certain amount, expecially the small/tinies.

All just more food for thought.

They do not brag about it but they do want someone to recognize them for what they have achieved in total silence and it never comes. Is that me because I think sometimes I am in between. This is probably as good a time to mention this as any but there are far fewer "secrets" in this game than most beginners think. Most "experts" aren't doing anything significantly different than anyone else, they're just doing the same things only sooner and better. However there is the occasional trick or two that someone comes up with that may even remain a secret for a short period of time.



Sooner or later everyone knows everything there is to know, but in the meantime if there's some little "trick" or "secret" that a Diplomat told me only because I'm a Diplomat then I tend to treat that as Diplomat confidential information. I'll hint at what's going on, I'll even leave all kinds of evidence in screenshots as to what it is that I'm doing, but I can't and I won't break it down into the three simple steps of how to replicate it and then hand it to everyone on a silver platter. So if I get a little vague over some point or other then that's probably what's going on.



I don't mean to sound mysterious and it's easy for folks to assume that there are all sorts of stuff like this but there really isn't. Off the top of my head there's really only one thing of any significance and maybe another thing that's hardly significant.



I essentially made this same speech in the Diplomats area and I want to make a point that I made there and that is I view all of us a metaverse players first and members of different empires second. There's a lot of cross pollination going on and there's nothing wrong with that, in fact its a very good thing. We talk to each other every day both here and on the GC2 site. We play together and on different teams in the MVL. If we're on different teams now then next month we may be on the same team. So like I said I will give big broad hints but I can't just connect all the dots in every circumstance. So on that basis I'll continue along as I'm going.



I do appreciate that folks find this interesting, and I hope they will feel free to add their two cents along the way. Funny thing, I already had to go fix up two screenshots that seemed to disappear from imageshack. Sometimes things go and come back but I just went ahead and replaced the two images that had disappeared. Hopefully this doesn't happen that frequently.”
