So Huge Deficits Are Part of Our “National Values” Now?

Sometimes I’m not sure who is worse, Obama or Pelosi.

… “Today, for the first time in many, many years, we have a president’s budget … that is a statement of our national values,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, said during the final debate on the House floor.

“What is important to us as a nation is reflected in this budget. It’s a very happy day for our country.”

Really Nancy?  What is it about a $3.4 trillion budget that is a statement of our national values?  Passing a national budget that is unsustainable, and includes huge increases to government programs and entitlements?

In terms of political sweeps? I honestly doubt it, unless the GOP can pull a rabbit out of their collectivness. I'm not bashing, so much as stating the stark reality of them painting themselves into a very bad corner.

There is still plenty of time to get it together.  Losing the RINO's has helped, and the tea party movement is pushing them in the right direction.  By the time '10 comes around, Obama and Pelosi will have broken our current system.

People will soon realize that voting for a President based on the "rock star" factor was a bad idea.  It's already showing in his poll numbers which are worse than Bush at the same time.

See, I have a thing against the Republican highjack of the tea parties, because they were also in a large way, a protest against them as well.

In my not-so-humble opinion the Tea Parties, an event concocted by Fox News, shows the weakness of the current Republican Party, to wit their inability to separate themselves from the lunatic fringe. The very same weakness that, as I so often agreed with you in the past, that the Democratic party suffered from. At most, 1/10 of one percent of the American population participated in those staged events, while President Obama's popularity ratings soared.

I think AldericJourdain accurately captures the spirit of most Americans today, we want to see our nation recover and we want to live our lives. The Republican Party has no plan to help the system, at least nothing that they have clearly enunciated, while on "values" issues they seem intent on telling people what they can and cannot do.

Let me offer a friendly wager, Island_Dog, that you will not be able to refuse. I expect that the Democrats will accually INCREASE their majority in the 2010 elections. If they do so, I will buy the sandwiches next time to commiserate with you, and if they don't I will buy the sandwiches to celebrate your victory. A Win/Win scenario! How can you say no to that?

Larry, the tea parties were not concocted by Fox News.  That was an allegation by Pelosi that was completely unfounded, not surprising coming from her.  The tea parties originated from a rant from Rick Santelli on CNBC, and then took a 'grassroots' effort.  Unfortunately, the media didn't cover the tea parties as they did with the so-called anti-war protests and the pro-immigrant demonstrations, so I can see how easily this can be confused.  Republicans were not the only ones attending the tea parties, democrats were there as well, and it is unfortunately we have a media who is bent on promoting pro-Obama stories.

Regardless of where it orginated, they were a big success.

I think everyone wants the country to recover, but Obama and democrats have made it worse.  I'm no fan of the GOP, I personally would prefer a true Conservative party.  I will agree they don't have many plans to help the system, nor do the democrats.  The trillion $ 'stimulus' plan has done nothing, the huge $3.4 trillion budget is filled with more social programs that we cannot afford, and will break the system.

And yes, I will take your wager, and even throw in drinks.  :)

as far as i can see people just worhship him more... they get panicked by the disasters the democrats are creating, and think the solution is more socialism and more big government. If anything I think 2010 will give the dems a supermajority in both houses and they will start ruining the constitution, and that will be when I flee the country.

I for one am glad the MSM criticized the tea parties, labeling all the attendees a loony, misguided Republicans, racists, or degenerates doing the RNC's biding. What better way to open the eyes of all the Independents and Democrats to open their eyes to what the administrating and their proxies are really doing. Most won't believe it if a conservative explains it to them, they have to be marginalized by the party they supported in order to see the truth. The fourth of July should be interesting, more folks should be able to attend without missing work.

True - we are spending an awful lot these days no doubt. A couple of things though. First - we had no choice but too and second and most important is this. It must be followed with healthcare reform, lifting SS tax cap and complete "simplified" tax reform minus loop holes etc. I believe that if this is all done and I believe that the President has all intention too, then we will bbe in good shappe and have made it through the storm and have come out better then ever. i admit thought if these things don't happen then, well, we are F$%c%$#.

There is always a choice. We spent billions on car companies that went bankrupt anyways. We could have simply allowed them to bankrupt from the beginning, saved the billions and they could have been on their way to recovery by now. We had a choice, we could have simply accepted the mistakes and allowed the bad to be removed making space for something btter but instead we chose to maintain the bad things by giving it more money all just so it could fall anyways and now on top of that we spent money for nothing.

Obama does believe in his ideas, that does not mean they will work and history has show it doesn't But I'm all for watching it happen. People will never learn no matter how many times they put their hands in the fire.
