Why would The president need photos of his plane over NY when his next election is in three years?

And the photo op only cost a little over $300,000.00, what a bargain for the administration that can't say no to spending your tax dollars.

Unless it is an official act of government business then the cost is paid by the democrat party. I am curious as to how this is justified as government business.

ROFLMAO. OMG! Sorry.... one sec.... ROFLAMO. Okay, I feel better now. For those that aren't aware..... Air Force One isn't a plane perse. Air Force One is the official designation of ANY plane that is carrying the President. Wow, didn't know that press releases were required everytime they moved a plane from airport to airport. Who knows, might have been a maintenance trip. I mean after all can't have the plane going down with precious cargo now can we.  Oh, my gosh! I'm so sorry, but this has be crying from laughing so hard. Don't people have anything better to report on in the media these days. *walks off chuckling*

The aircraft was flying low and circling over lower Manhattan. People evacuated buildings, and I believe there were injuries. Correct me if I'm wrong but you probably wouldn't take a person mauled by a lion to a zoo right away. I'm sure the people on the ground couldn't see the planes presidential markings, but they sure saw the F-16 chase planes. Had it been anywhere else besides NY I might be inclined to agree with you. This was a bad choice in a place where the memories are a bit fresher than most. I think it was news worthy, and I live in an area where low  flying military planes are quite common, this was not a common sight. Airspace over NY City is restricted.

Well actually it is the designation for any Air Force aircraft that holds the presidnet while his is on board. A helicopter is an air plane but when the President is onboard with marines flying it, it is designated Marine One. This particular plane was the back-up plane that followes Air Force One when the President travels in case something breaks. When the President is not on board it is called 27000 or 27001 depending on which plane is moving. In this case it was 27001 that was doing the photo op.

The reason this made news was because no body knew why a plane was flying so low over the city with fighter jets following it. It was too high to see the presidential markings on the side of the plane. Even though the new administration wishes to down play the war on terror real people still know it is going on and that we are due for another attack. Seeing that plane caused major panic in the city. People were running from office buildings in fear.

Well, honestly several parts of this story were left out by all until this point then and no references made to outside sources. All that was said is that the President's airplane flew over New York City without the President on board. I hope you can understand where I'm coming from a little better with that in mind.

As for panic being caused, people need to think about it a little more before they go running in terror. Do I understand what happened on 9/11, yup, sure do. Was I there, no I'll admit that. But think people! Okay first off if over New York City is restricted airspace then they would have had to have clearance to have even thought of such a stunt. Aircraft going off of course has been strictly delt with since 9/11 and there's no way they would have let an airplane even near the airspace let alone circle it for however long unless there was a special order given to do so. What were they trying to prove with it, heck if I know, but what I do know is that people ignore the true problems and then jump over stuff that is being highly regulated.

Honestly, with the high security, tougher FAA restrictions and the orders that if a situation like that was to ever happen again it would be delt with quickly and efficiently.... I'm sorry I still don't understand the panic. If the plane had truly been a threat it would have been eliminated quickly and efficiently, that is one lesson that the government actually learned I do believe.

This is the fault and problem created by the Bush Administration. We were attacked only once on our soil under Mr. Bush and the bad guys have been hiding and running ever since. Because of this you have felt safe and secure, causing you to believe what you have written.

In reality the order to shoot down a commercial passenger plane still requires the express orders of the President of the United States, the current President not the former. The people in New York are mostly democrats and they know better than you do what kind of spine this President has. Keep in mind that this same President wants to release the people held in Gitmo to the United States because the countries the terrorists, excuse me, the freedom fighters, came from refuse to take them back including Khalid Shaikh Mohammed the admitted planner of 9/11. The people that took up arms against our troops will soon become American citizens. I am sure you feel much safer now that you have read this. I have just ordered another case of ammunition.

The President's authorization required? If there was an airplane that deviated into a no fly zone, the President wouldn't know about it until after the plane had been shot down. You honestly think that all military orders wait until the President gets out of his meetings? That's a rich one. On September 11th there was no order given by the President, however there were four planes that set out that day with the intent on crashing into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Half of them were stopped efficiently, the others weren't quite in time. Since then there has been an even higher alert and the area in question has become a no-fly zone which is watched much more carefully.

Do I think that Obama has his priorities straight and is thinking right, no I don't, however I do believe that the military will do it's job. The difference between us is that I already had the extra ammunition sitting by my bedside before 9/11 so there's really no need for me to suddenly panic.

I'm curious, though, how the Bush Administration actually doing their job and addressing the issue at hand is supposed to have made these people run and hide. They've always been in hiding and on the run, they just didn't have the situation enough in their favor that they tried to do anything before then. You think our streets were any more safe before then when they were just the person sitting next to you with no one looking out for them? Wow, looks like I'm not the one with the dilusion of safety and security.

There is not a single person in the military chain of command that has the authority to fire on a civilian aircraft inside our borders. Each time it has to be authorized by the president. Look at the way the colonel in charge of the president's plane was left hanging out to dry just for a photo op. Are you going to risk your job and jail time to possibly save a few lives in a white house that does not like the military? I know that sounds a lot harder than it is but the truth is only the president can make that call. that is why it took so long for the fighters to react on 9/11. By the time presidential authority was given there was only one plane left in the air, and the passengers took care of that one. To put it bluntly the military is forbidden by law from acting one its own within the borders without a declaration of a state of emergency (marshal law) by Congress and the president, without that any military action is punishable by jail time and if deaths are involved then the person giving the order could be executed. Notice how when the president got bad press the military man was thrown under the bus, it was same day service.

Okay, you must have missed all the broadcasts the media did not show the eight years Mr. Clinton was in office, the declaration of war made by Al Qaeda just before Mr. Bush 41 left office, the attack on the World Trade center in 1994, it was all treated like a crime rather than a terrorist act. We now have an administration that wants to go back to treating terror acts as crimes instead of war. They even stopped using the term “the war on terror” to prove we are civilized.

Remember Saddam Insane? How he broadcast that he was supporting terrorists on national television. Terrorism was big business around the world before 9/11 now it is no longer a growth industry. Correction, it is starting to become a growth industry as AQ now is in the process of taking over Pakistan and its nuclear arsenal. Now that we have set a date to leave Iraq deaths of our military is up just like at the end of Vietnam because they know we are leaving and nothing will stop that with this president. Even though the president said he was going to put more troops in Afghanistan we are now losing ground there the enemy is only 60 miles from the capitol. We lost over a hundred miles to the terrorists in two months. What signal does that send to our enemies around the world? North Korea has walked away from the talks and our Secretary of State is frustrated that her great plan to get them to sit at the table did not work. Wow maybe the mean old Bush was doing the right thing after all. Every promise the North Koreans made under President Bush they have broken under President Obama. He is weak and the world knows it.

I say all that to point out that if you expect him to give the order to shoot down an airplane without political cover you are going to be disappointed.

Under President Bush we hunted the terrorists, under President Obama so far we have told our enemies that we are too nice to play in the dirt, do what you want and we will talk about it later if you have time. The terrorist are no longer running for cover they are moving out and doing damage.

November 4, 1992 Governor Bill Clinton wins the Electoral College and the presidency with 43% of the popular vote.

February 26, 1993 when a car bomb was detonated below Tower One of the World Trade Center in New York City. The attack was planned by a group of conspirators including Ramzi Yousef, Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammad Salameh, Nidal Ayyad, Abdul Rahman Yasin and Ahmad Ajaj. They received financing from Khaled Shaikh Mohammed, Yousef's uncle. In March 1994, four men were convicted of carrying out the bombing. Though it was known by intelligence officials that they belonged to the group Al-Qaeda nothing was done to hunt down the group or its leader. People were arrested and convicted so the case was closed.

April 19, 1993 the Clinton administration assaults the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas and burn 76 people including 21 children to death. President Clinton blames it all on Attorney Genera, Janet Reno.

May 28, 1993 President Clinton passes the largest tax increase in world history.

June, 1993 President Clinton expands his Somalia mission to feed the hungry into nation building and police action but does not properly arm and equip the troops.

June, 1993 Failed New York City landmark bomb plot. When allowed the FBI can do some great work.

October, 1993 Al-Qaeda linked terrorist attack US troops in Mogadishu. 18 soldiers die in the “Black Hawk Down” scenario. But take out thousands of Somali terrorists. President Clinton responds by pulling out US troops. Bin Laden later said this event convinced him that the American soldier is a paper tiger and inspired the 9/11 attacks.

April, 1994 the Rwandan genocide begins. Despite systematic rape campaigns and ethnic murders, President Clinton and his administration do nothing to stop the slaughter.

October 21, 1994, the United States and North Korea signed the "Agreed Framework", whereby North Korea agreed to freeze its plutonium production program in exchange for fuel, economic cooperation, and the construction of two modern nuclear power plants powered by light-water reactors. Eventually, North Korea's existing nuclear facilities were to be dismantled, and the spent reactor fuel taken out of the country.

December 11, 1994 a small bomb explodes on board Philippine Airlines Flight 434, killing a Japanese businessman. Authorities found out that Ramzi Yousef planted the bomb to test it for his planned terrorist attack to blow up a dozen planes over the Pacific Ocean in one day. This plan was later changed to the attacks of 9/11.

October 17, 1995 President Clinton says, “Probably there are people in this room still mad at me at the budge because you think I raised your taxes too much. It might surprise you to know that I think I raised them too much, too.”

In conjunction with several other Islamic militant leaders, bin Laden issued two fatwa in 1996 and then again in 1998 that Muslims should force the United States and its allies to withdraw their military forces from the Arabian peninsula, by attacking American military and civilian targets.

February, 1996 Sudan’s religious leader Hassan Turabi, writes President Clinton offering to turn over Bin Laden. (Think about this not in hindsight but in actuality. A man with a paramilitary organization publically states that he is going to attack US interests abroad, and soon after the chief mullah of the country this man is living in is offering him to you.)  President Clinton refuses, fearing the US has no legal reason to take custody of him. (Bin Laden is now linked to two terrorist attacks on Americans)

In May 1996, the Sudanese capitulated to U.S. pressure and asked Bin Laden to leave, despite their feeling that he could be monitored better in Sudan than elsewhere.

June 25, 1996 Terrorists bomb the US military’s Khobar Tower barracks in Saudi Arabia. This has now been linked to Bin Laden. President Clinton does nothing at the time.

August, 1996 Hassan Turabi again offers to turn over Bin Laden. President Clinton does not accept the offer again. (Bin Laden is now linked to four terrorist attacks on Americans)

November 5, 1996 President Clinton wins reelection but falls short of winning half the votes cast.

April, 1997 President Omar Hassan Ahmed Bashir of Sudan “offered the arrest, and extradition of Bin Laden and detailed intelligence data about the global networks constructed in Egypt’s Islamic Jihad, Iran’s Hezbollah, and the Palestinian Hamas,” According to regional expert Mansor Ijaz. President Clinton ignores him. (Bin Laden is now linked to three and one suspected terrorist attacks on Americans and just maybe Sudan knows something we don’t know, and being or wanting to be a friend to us is trying to help us.)

February, 1998 Sudan’s intelligence chief, Gutbi al-Mahdi wrote directly to the FBI to offer Bin Laden. (Bin Laden is now linked to three terrorist attacks on Americans and just maybe Sudan knows something we don’t know and maybe they want to be our friend.)

Bin Laden left for Afghanistan, taking with him Ayman Zawahiri, considered by the U.S. to be the chief planner of the Sept. 11 attacks; Mamdouh Mahmud Salim, who traveled frequently to Germany to obtain electronic equipment for Al Qaeda; Wadih El-Hage, Bin Laden's personal secretary and roving emissary, now serving a life sentence in the U.S. for his role in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya; and Fazul Abdullah Mohammed and Saif Adel, also accused of carrying out the embassy attacks.

August 7, 1998 hundreds of people were killed in simultaneous car bomb explosions at the United States embassies in the East African capital cities of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. The attacks, linked to local members of the al Qaeda terrorist network headed by Osama bin Laden, brought bin Laden and al Qaeda to international attention for the first time as far as the news media are concerned. Bin Laden was then indicted in United States federal court for his alleged involvement in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya, and is on the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

August 20, 1998 someone in the Clinton administration discovered that Osama Bin Laden might be in the Sudan. With great decisiveness the President ordered the immediate bombing of the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical plant. The plant had no connections to Bin Laden and the county of Sudan had been trying to give Bin Laden to us for years. Oh by the way, in a totally unrelated story, Monica Lewinsky testified in front of the grand jury the next day. Who needed Sudan as a friend anyway?

August 21, 1998 President Clinton in another bold decisive move ordered missile strikes against Al Qaeda terrorist training camps in Afghanistan. A little too late since Bin Laden and his troops had moved to Afghanistan and were now moving to Iraq after he was kicked out of Sudan. The camps were mostly empty but they did get 34 people not members of AQ, But as a presidential hopeful suggested doing the same thing may I remind all that Pakistan screamed its outrage at the US violation of its airspace, wonder if they will get mad when President Obama invades their country? Is that not an act of war from a man that wants peace?

After the missile attacks Osama bin Laden pledged to attack the U.S. again. Ayman al-Zawahiri made a phone call to a Newsweek reporter, stating that "The war has only just begun; the Americans should now await the answer."

December 16, 1998 President Clinton attacks Iraq. In a totally unrelated story the House leaders delay the impeachment debate until the dust settles from the preemptive war started by the President.

December 14, 1999 Ahmed Ressam is arrested. His plan to blow up L.A. international airport on New Year’s Eve. Look up the “Millennium bomber.” Though the Clinton administration tried to claim credit for stopping this terrorist attack it was later discovered that a customs agent busted him when he tried to cross the border from Canada into the US.

October 12, 2000 Al-Qaeda terrorist detonate a dinghy packed with explosives into the USS Cole, killing 17 Sailors. President Clinton did almost nothing. The investigation said AQ was to blame but no action was taken. Where is a Lewinsky testimony when you need one?

December, 2000 President Clinton receives Intel about Osama Bin Laden’s location. Military advisors urge a strike. The President refuses.

September 11. 2001 terrorist hijack four US airliners. They fly two of them into New York City’s world trade towers, another hits the pentagon. Passengers aboard the fourth jet give their lives to stop the hijackers. President Bush tells Vice President Cheney, “We’re at war, Dick. We’re going to find out who did this and kick their ass.” The democrats in congress asked, he had 8 months on the job why didn’t he stop this from happening? They seem to ignore the seven years of attacks from the same terror group prior to Mr. Bush taking office.

September 12, 2001 Saddam Hussein is the only world leader to praise Bin Laden and the attacks. Even Iran who we don’t have diplomatic relations with was offering help and Intel.

Does not look like they were in hiding much when you treat terrorism as a crime rather than when you treat it like a war.

I won't go into what I know about 9/11, because I couldn't prove it to you anyways and I didn't argue that this started just with 9/11. I was meaning to point out that I wasn't under the illusion that we were perfectly 100% safe before 9/11 happened, anyways, sorry if I used the wrong words and it was taken the other way.
