Indeed, I think it has to do with the fact that Stardock carries a more mature audience than other more popular publishers (sorry stardock, didn't mean for that to be a backhanded complement).

There are going to be a good number of trolls in any internet community, but I've seen a higher percentage of helpful and friendly players than I have in any other online gaming community to date.

Internet will always have shit talks because it removes boundaries of the real world. In real world you expect to get a punch in the face for saying fock you, even if you say it to a weakling noob, you expect he will find a moment to stab you in the back, thats why you wont do it. In the internet - you know you'll never get any punishment, so, you're free to do whatever you want.

Thats where we come to see how nasty people are. Its just current state of humanity. It stinks very bad.

I'll tell you, other then people getting frustrated with connection issues (which is much less common now), everyone I've PLAYED with has been extreamly pleasent.

Any game in the first couple months is going to be full of all sorts of players, including the trash.  It's hard to judge a community until it's settled down for the long haul.

Seriously, dude. learn to chill. You cannot go haywire, in game or life, everytime someone throws harsh language at you. Part of growing up is to learn to ignore things. Like annoying people. Grow some thick skin will ya? Posts like yours are what truly angers me for example, but i learned not to snap everytime i read  them.

Now seriously, this is worth hatemongering over though. Even ignoring the arrogance displayed, the amount of nonsense in that tiny portion of your text is already breathtaking.

Immature people?  Most trolls in games are perfectly mature people who simply like to yank your chain. Why? For the Lulz. The Goddes of laughter requires tribute after all. To make things worse, you make your conclusion based on what a tiny portion of players said. Not every player whos online everyday even lurks in this forum so if a tiny portion of the players here report trolling in games, their reports have to be considred the exception, not the rule.

I have yet to have a single game where there was flaming or taunting for example.

All you realy need for a healthy community is people like you shutting the fck up, because your existence ultimatly supports the trolls because you set the stage for them. Always remember: trolling is only fun if there are people who complain about it.

Once you are silent, simply add a mute button to, say, the score screen in demigod, allowing me to filter out the marked players chat messages.

STOP MAKING A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT.

I'm having real troubles with the community too, but then again it's like that in most every PC online community (console is even worse).

I had a game were a person said "Rooks suck at flag domination" and left the game just 5 minutes into it's start because he was playing a Rook.  No, he wasn't on my team and no my team wasn't trash talking.  In the beginning me and my teammate each said "Good luck" to each other and to the other team.  But, that one guy left his teammate hanging in a 2vs1(+AI bot), and then the teammate quit because he didn't want to fight us like that (nobody would, honestly).

Things needing dealt with to make a better community:

-"Rage Quitters"> A #1 issue with this game is that they either quit because they're slightly losing, don't like the character they/their teammate plays, or just quits because.   Suggestion: Minus favor for the people that quit a match early.

-"Angry Sisters">  These are teammates that sit there and tell you how to do everything, yell at you for everything, and just like to rip on you as you play the game YOU purchased.  They think they know it all and doesn't need to tell people anything because they expect the people around them to know this stuff even though they know more.

-"Racists"> Unfortunately, there are still racist people in this world and because of the anonymity of the internet and online gameplay, people think that they're able to say whatever they want and people have to sit there and listen to it.  Well, that's not true.  As much as I hate rage quitters, any game with a racist with be an automatic lose to leave the game.  I'm intolerant of intolerant people.  Cursing is one thing that really doesn't matter, neither does sexual content, however a racist spewing hating within something that's supposed to be 'entertainment' just ruins it.

Every person has different sense of humor.

Seeing you two rant on about the term "mature" for example is quite entertaining for me. Because when is someone mature? Everyone defines it differently depending on personal views, cultural influences and upbringing.

Now going on to tease other people, especialy in a game that is supposed to be about having fun with each other, is not a sign of immaturity. Bad taste in humor perhaps but thats that. For some its the idle hands syndrome even. If you're a pushover they get bored. And need to do something besides beating you at every turn. Some even consider it a "skill" to be honed. Psychological warfare one could say.

Heres comes into play one thing that is always required of you if you wish to claim maturity  in charachter: Being able to ignore things that bother you.

To finish this i'll repeat the request made several posts above. The single win button - the cure to your community cancer:  The MUTE button. Include it please.

"Humor" at the expense of someone else to the point of ruining someone's online experience (for your own "lulz") is not mature, in any way shape or form.  Part of being mature is being respectful.

If you can't understand this, then no, you certainly do not understand what it is to be mature.

It wont change, just get used to it or let it roll off your back. As a long time Dota player I could really care less what people say in game.

Hehe, as an aside, that phrase always seems terribly backwards to me. Shouldn't it be "couldn't care less"?

Also, yes, teasing or winding up people you don't know should be done very delicately, if at all. Since even if the reverse situation wouldn't bother you, you don't know if they share your tastes in humour. Pulling someone's chain in itself is considered bad taste by a lot of people.

Maturity includes understanding this and the ability to restrain yourself. If you really have the urge to play a joke on someone, at least do it with someone you know can take it in good humour.

I think the community in this game is OK. However, I have had a lot of people give me a hard time, because I am still learning. You just have to get used to that with any online game, usually just laugh at their idiocy is enough.

It is quite a difficult game to master and requires team work. The silly thing is, is that the people who rage quit, tend not to be great players anyway.

Generally with n00bs I like to give them a few tips. I hope the smaller community can develop, I have seen a couple of people avoid other players (myself included :p). It would be nice for people to accept that players get better over time, I know that by the time I finished playing Supcom I had hit the top 100 ranked.

Frustration at the moment is that people take 30mins to find a game sometimes, then get paired with a poor player, so they just quit, understandable. That said I had an excellent game this morning, went all the way to the wire

Last night was the first game I played in where one person (my second ally) was an @ss. 
They made many comments re: our decisions and how we were playing our DG's.  Very annoying and not helpful in any way.

Funny thing:  he/she ragequit after a few minutes and as a team we actually did BETTER with the AI...  

Stop making a huge deal out of his making a big deal out of it.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm waaay immature...teehee...but I'm not going to rant on about how other players are noobs and what not...that's just not nice, I've been on the receiving end of many of those and it kinda sucks.

Players that don't communicate give me a cause to flame. When they make blatant obvious mistakes, even for new people and there's never a "sorry" or "I need help" then they are the willingly stupid that deserve everything that comes to them. When playing a co-operative game, there is an expectation for what everyone should put in and games of this nature have now got to the point where it's actually quite hard to make such errors unless you're really trying to. This makes the distinction between beginners and griefers more blurred; so if you persistently balls everything up, expect to be labelled and treated as scum.

Right, I forgot, this is not about enjoying yourself.. no you have to win at all costs, and someone who is not fitting in your requirements does of course deserve to be treated like shit.. ...

Why am *I* not allowed to enjoy myself? In fact, why is *the rest of the team* not permitted to enjoy themselves often because of a single player ruining it? It might not be deliberate; but the effect is so identicle that distinguishing between learning players and griefers is impossible, which is why I emphasised communication as being important at the start of my post. We only know the difference if they bother to type something, which they often don't, even in response to reasonable and mild questions about why they did something inexplicable.

Because it is on the expense of someone else, and is a intentional act. 

A person who is new and may make mistakes is not intentionally ruining the game for you.  You and people like you, are intentionally taking your frustrations out on another person and trying to ruin their experience.

I mean seriously dude...does the concept of "playing nice" really have to be explained to you?  I thought we all learned this stuff in pre-school.

The solution in my mind won't come until probably this Summer with the next phase of Impulse where people will be able to have a lot more control over the types of players they get set up with.

The problem right now is that you get matched up with people based purely on skill (in skirmish / pantheon). What is needed, IMO, are ways to rate other players in game.

Basically a karma system.  A player can rate a player +1 or -1. When doing matchmaking, players with higher karma will get matched up quicker than players with lower karma.  In addition, the system could look at how often someone gives out karma and take that into account as well (i.e. if someone gives a person -1 every time they lose the system could take that into account).
