Does anyone play DA with gigantic universe and gobs of planets?

If so, I would like to ask a question?  Have you ever seen the game get funky and start losing new ship icons at the beginning of the turn?  That is, lose all of them.  Even though they are on the planet ready to be launched (though it must be launched manually).

This would happen after there are several hundred planets owned by the players.

Many of us play Gigantic abundant all galaxies in DA.  Yes, there are some quirks.  Some can be rather annoying, but we've found ways of working around them.

I haven't come across the disappearing ship icons one though. 

My typical galaxy consists of around 720 planets and I normally have over 5000 ships by the time the game is over.  Sometimes double that amount.

Could you perhaps post a screenie of the problem?  Before and after shots would help.  There might be something else going on or it could be a video problem.  Also, if you post a debug.err, it might help somewhat.

720 planets and you have 5000 ships?!  10,000 ships?!!

What DA version and what difficulty?

I do 2.01 and abundant everything, max AIs and max minors and I have never accumulated 5,000 ships.  I end up with an influence or alliance win long before that, and that's even declining the faster brute force conquer all win or the research win (even on Slow).

I'm currently playing DA 2.01.  Been doing gigantic, all abundant, very fast tech for quite a while.  DL and then DA.

Difficulty is suicidal, max AIs, max minors.  Pretty standard stuff, to be honest.  Many people go farther, but I hold the highest MV score for DA at the moment.

One person (Clan Lindsey) has a higher overall score than me, but he plays TA.  He also goes suicidal, gigantic, all abundant max AIs, max minors, very fast tech, but he doesn't build as many ships as far as I know.

The high scorer for DL is Random70 and he also goes suicidal, gigantic, all abundant, max AIs and very fast tech.

This has been happening to me for months but only after a lot of planets and ships.  It goes away once the AI's are almost defeated.  Doesn't sound like a video error but maybe a memory error.  I am running the latest Vista on a fairly new Dell with 3 gb.  Note the game doesn't crash but simply does not show the ship icons.  Stardock apparently doesn't want to talk to me since apparently only a few have this problem.  Yes, there are others,

I can't help with the problem, as I have not experienced it yet.

On play, score, and the MV, I'm not in it for score yet.  I guess that's why I do not build and over-build ships.  That is, I tend to build enough to win with margin, not to max out score.

I started at Tough max CPU, and have gone up one level from there so far.  I will soon shift up another level, but Suicidal is still some time in the future.  I play a factories-focus approach and build no research facilities.  I think playing w/o Minors would be tougher, as I tend to sell them tech after tech to get me through that trough late in the initial colony rush.

Oh, I play slow tech to string the game out.  I think fast tech would let me too easily run and grab the galactic stock market and manufacturing center (the one just below Industrial center which I never build).  I may have to do that in hgher difficulties, but not yet.

Hmm...nothing wrong with your setup that I can see.  I don't know how well DA plays with Vista, since I'm on XP.  Another noticeable difference is your DirectX10 as opposed to my DirectX9c.  I wonder if either Vista or DX10 might hold an answer?

Manually launching, saving, quitting, reloading gets me ok for a few turns.  Then same thing.

I've had this from DL on to DA 2.0. When you get over a few hundred planets and have all or most producing somehting at once, I'll often lose build notifies from about end of year 2 on. The reloads thing will get them back for one turn, then nothing again. I've just learned to live with it by using Rally points and autolaunch.

Hmmm, I also may be missing some of those completion notifications but had simply thought I was mistaken.

I'll pay more attention and post if I spot such. 

It has not made much difference to me in the game play because - once I have 20 or so planets - I check the colony spreadsheet screen just about every turn before I toggle the TURN button just to make sure that I have no inadvertently-idle planets.

I may be blind.   But I start DA, look at the game tab of main menu.  I have read it 3 times and I don't see

autolaunch.

Autolaunch seems to be a TA only feature. In DA you can use the rally points and governors as a roundabout autolaunch. Set all planets to a rallypoint, then when ships are built use the governor to cancel all ships going to rally points/on autpilot(something like that). You can then use the find button to go through them and give them their assignments.
