How hard is it to access internet pornography?

I struggled with pornography for a long time. It was something I hated, and something I wished it was near-impossible to find. But just how hard is it to find porn?

Not. Despite the fact that it should be behind an age-gate, many sources of porn run it behind no protection, or minimal. One site is incompatible with firefox, so porn can be accessed without any age-verification.

And age verification? "Are you 18?". That's all. There are a few sites I've visited with full age-gates, but about eighty percent of those I ever went to had no separate age gate or even a visible age-verification system in Firefox.

And how hard is it to accidentally access porn? In a week, I got 2 porn links disguised as normal links, and I got ads for material without soliciting them while browsing on otherwise clean sites.

Filters work about ninety percent of the time, but some pornography does not use names or keywords familiar to filter software, and adding in the lingo for every type of porn is nearly impossible. And filters can often be disabled or worked around, so they may not even be effective.

So, I ask you, do we need a reform in the internet porn? I believe very strongly that we do. It exists, it's practically marketed to minors, and it is addictive and shameful. It causes emotional and psychological damage, and is a pox upon the sight of humanity.

Where are the tentacles and tropical fish exchanges?

back in the good ol days i amused myself by starting a newsgroup entitled "alt-sex-animals-lamprey eels"  to put that in perspective, here's an image of a lamprey eel at work literally drilling it's way into a salmon in order to literally suck it dry (and dead)

and here's a pic of a lamprey eel's mouth (and to think they kiss their mothers with it).

anyway some enterprising sucker (sorry i couldn't resist) took it seriously enough to post a short vid of  woman having sex with an eel.  i can't recall where i stored it but it wasn't the kind of thing one would discard accidentally.   if your innarested lemme know and i'll try to fish it out.

i've never been able to decide which of the two enjoyed it least.

not enuff.  i'm barely around myself anymore and was really wondering where you'd wandered off to because i hadn't seen anything from you for months until maybe yesterday?

Can't tell you just how WRONG that is, LOL.  Although, how much does it pay to have sex with a lamprey eel?  Just asking.

I was gone for awhile but I pop on now and again.  Do you still have my email?  I haven't seen you on here for forever...

Geez....think about it...if it weren't for porn some of you might not even be here right now. Funny thing is...this country was based on puritan values yet the porn industry brings in about 40 million or more a year...yet few people fess up to looking at porn. Ok....who's buying all the sex toys!? And I don't think it's the porn thats the problem...it's the people that view it and can't tell fantasy from reality and sometimes involve inoccent people in their little perversions. It's just nekid people...and honestly...who here hasn't seen someone nekid? :P

The fact that exploitation of sex exists is not under discussion. Exploitation of everything exists.

Addiction/preoccupation is, and the desire of the OP'er to keep a tight control of it is.

Like anything else, if you find you're doing something to the exclusion of other things which require your attention, there's a problem. The problem is that YOU (and others, but we're not discussing them) cannot do what you're supposed to be doing. If it weren't porn, it'd be something else. YOU need to examine the problem which is not doing what you should be doing.

That will involve a therapist since it involves stuff you can't get to by yourself.

As for porn...well, I'd go with what's already been said by starkers, WG, Shelby, v, fuzzy, Karen and others. That's me. You'll develop your own ideas about it. NightTrain said some very insightful things in this thread. I encourage you to find them and to save and think about them. One of them is that you can't bubble wrap the world. You have to develop mechanisms to cope successfully with things and to render them nontoxic to you by understanding them and yourself. Try to remember what one of the most insightful people in (recorded) history wrote: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in the stars but in ourselves."

In your case you found sex to be a powerful stimulant. Congrats...join the human race. Should we limit what minors see? Yes. A better method is to have them observe normal relationships and teach through example. And do it gently, with loving kindness. Without guilt and shame.

The human race has had enough of that crap. Time to evolve and move on.

I have always fealt that we are cheating our children by not teaching them about emotions at an early age. They don't need sex education. It clearly doesn't do any good considering teen pregnancy rates.  They need emotional education and flat out honest information to prevent them from doing stupid things. Installing fear in them only harms them in the end. If young girls understood that putting out to gain Man's attention only creates a bad negative in the long run. Why are we so damn afraid to talk to children? Lack of proper education about themselves adds to the suicide rate. Too many confusedkids becuase that's what marketing does.

So well said. These are the words representing the best: The absolute best of feelings a parent has for his/her children.

My answer is that we should not 'act' or 'not act' out of fear. We should act by doing and saying what we know/feel is right for ourselves and others, children or adult. We should act out of love and loving kindness.

Anything else is a lie and hypocrisy.

This thread should die now. I have been reading this for 2 days now. A topic like this is nothing more than an opinion and one that is not in the interest of this community. Porn started 50 + years ago with pictures. If you don't want it than don't look at it, don't tell me it just pops on your computer. It doesn't do that unless you invited it and you only have to invite it once. Reformat with a totally clean install and don't visit any sites and it won't just pop up on your computer. I have 7 grandchildren ages from 6 to 14. They are all on the computer and have been advised and talked to about these types of subjects. When they have a question they ask as they were also advised to do so and wouldn't be in any trouble for doing so. Children can learn they just need to be put in the correct direction. Porn is part of life, time to get use to it. I respect anyone believes but this is like preaching God to someone that doesn't believe. It's not necessary!

DaveBax, respectfully, I couldn't disagree more. The 'life' of a thread shouldn't be determined...it is what it is. People have thoughts which I, for one, would really like to learn from. I'm only sorry I'm not learning more from more of the Community.

I am glad you've had an open discussion with your children and grandchildren. That's a courageous thing to do as so many of us have been raised with active/passive guilt, ignorance and shame around this topic and sex in general.

As for whether it 'just pops up' on the computer, in truth I've gotten spam emails about 'enhancements' both chemical and (for want of a better word) 'mechanical'.  So, they can come without any 'visits', and children should learn how to deal with that, and their natural desires as well.

I certainly hope I wasn't perceived to be preaching...because what I wrote was about my feelings, beliefs and values along with a smattering of knowledge....with the hope they would help/add and stimulate some thought.

A community member is in trouble. Do you mkind if we try to help him get through it?

No, they are nothing alike.

Heed your own advice...

Not trying to make an enemiy here, I just thought your tone was not necessary and way too absolute for my taste.

Not trying to make an enemiy here

I don't get offended that easy. No enemy here. Just had something to say after reading all this and said it. No one has to agree with it. I read what you all said and I respect your comments. Was just trying to say from all the comments I read was that it can't be stopped but it can be controlled to a degree with some teaching.

If you don't want it than don't look at it

I agree so I'm done here. You would think one would learn but I can't seem to do that here. I made a post a while back that IE8 Rc was released if anyone was interested. I about got chopped up and spit out over that post. At least it made me feel that way. Because of my wife’s illness I don’t' get a lot of time on here to see exactly what takes place. I will learn over time it's just taking more computer time than i have, but will learn. I think the help you all give is great. I just have to stay on those subjects. Sorry if I offended you all and will just sit back on the side till I learn how to inject the correct comments.

I'm sorry to hear of her illness, DaveBax. Hope she recovers fully. :sun:

You didn't offend at all. The internet, and Forums in general can be rough...it's a function of anonymity and the feeling some folks get that they can write or say anything and get away with it.

It's off topic...but a personal anecdote might help. I've been using WindowBlinds since it's inception (or close to) but up until last year I hadn't written a word in Forums, and hadn't even checked them out. At first, I was totally ignored, and then I managed to summon up the courage to post something...which was totally ignored until some passing pidgeon 'dropped' on it (or so I thought). So I found this guy Zubaz and wrote to him and told him I was gonna quit and never come back (sound familiar up to here?). "The Striped Marvel" wrote back and told me to toughen up, the net's a rough and tumble place but if I wanted to quit, there really wasn't anything he could do to prevent that.

I took his advice. I even found the nerve to Photoshop him. I've learned so much here about the software, Photoshop, some wonderful people....so take mine...stick around: You're important.

If I can help with anything, please don't hesitate to ask...I'm just around the corner. Lurking. ;)

That'll be quite a big 'plus'......

Pompeii may try to lay claim to the first....but it's a fair bet that the first cave drawings weren't all cutesy 'little man spears big mammoth'... there's bound to be one or two pics of sheilas getting a clubbing at the Neanderthal-a-go-go on a Saturday night.....;p

It's only porn if it's intended to arouse. I would think neanderthal paintings were painted to tell a story rather than purposedly cause arousal. Writing "I was out hunting mammoth all day, then went home and banged a sheila or two" is not porn, just regular male bragging. :D

The 2 major problems with legislating porn is (1) WHO decides what is porn, and (2) deciding WHAT porn is.  I'm sure there would be a lot of hyperreligious, control freaks standing in line for the job of WHO decides what porn is, and that would lead to a lot of what now classifies as "art" to be stamped as illegal. (Remember former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft had drapes put on the statue of Lady Liberty in the Great Hall of the Dept. of Justice?  Supposedly that was because he didn't want to give the opportunity for journalists to take pictures of him with giant breasts in the background and make reference to his person using the word "boob," but you get my drift on this.)

Now, I know there is a huge stretch of the imagination when it comes to anally-inserted tropical fish and classical art, but I suppose, given enough time in reflecting, I could come up with some artistic meaning, even poetic, on why anally inserted tropical fish is a reflection of everyday life.  As an aside, that sounds like a really fun party game to play at an uppity wine-tasting party..."find the parallels of everyday life in this anally-inserted tropical fish film clip, and give details on why this film has changed your life."

So, what really consistutes as porn, isn't the media itself, but the viewer of the media, more specifically the MIND of the viewer of the media.  Before the internet, and back in the Leave it to Beaver days, young boys would use the Sears catalogue as porn (all those human torsos displaying ladies undergarments....drool), or National Geographic where primitive ladies were there in their birthday suit, totally unaware that they were *gasp* naked and unashamed.

Porn, as with anything else, follows the laws of supply and demand.  By restricting its flow and distribution, it becomes a coveted thing, and more desired.  There will always be a demand for it, but restricting the supply, the demand will increase.  I say, if it's really that much of a scourge, open the flood gates and let it flow until its as common as Wal-Mart.  Then it will acquire the stigma of being blase' and people can get worked up about something that really matters in this world, like actual living, rather than fantasy.

Ok....who's buying all the sex toys!?

The battery-operated boyfriend a/k/a BOB?  Actually, I belong to a forum of Medical Transcriptionists, most of us are between the ages of 30-50....BOB is a topic that comes up quite frequently there.  I broke up with BOB when I married my husband 8 years ago.  To use a quote out of context that I received in a congratulations card after my first child was born, "they're so much nicer than the plastic kind."

Want to know what porn is? Read the dictionary:

Merriam Webster

Things become (or stop being) pornography depending on the context.

A picture in a family album showing a naked child taking a bath is not porn. Take that same picture and put it in a pedophiles collection, voíla, it's child porn. It's all about context.
