Someone else had the problem from friends list. Instead of not being able to connect with a person while joining a game and getting the "you have been kicked" message. I just crash with this message instead.

 

Had an admin joining the game I crashed too, hopefully he noticed this!

While trying to connect, the connection info window will say I connect to some players and then fail to connect to one of the players, then the game is locked up.  Usually there is a debug window popped up in the background.  Once the game just closed suddenly with no error.  I can't get into any multi-player game.

I am one of the people that can't start the game without using the Demigodstub.exe file. (I tried disabling all non-Windows startup items and services without any effect.)  Multiplayer also never worked very often for me.  I have a beefy router with the 6073, 6100-6200 TCP/UDP ports forwarded to my machine (verified with portforward.com), and I have no firewall.  I also have the latest video drivers, etc.

Why does Stardock hate me?

I just wanted to post an update to this. I set my computer to the DMZ for my router, bypassing all port/forwarding restrictions - and the crashing immedietly stopped. So basically it looks like if you set up your network correctly, the crashing will stop. So forward the right ports people, it will likely fix this problem.

I try joining a Multiplayer game then it just freezes while trying to connect to other players. Then i have to CNTL+ALT+DELTE out of the game and cant see error report. Didnt have this problem last night.

Geez what happened to stardock, I never had any problems with sins and love that game to death but this game is just a big stinking mess.

This game has been an utter pain to get working and playing, I cannot believe that the pirates on Hamachi and GameRanger are having MORE play at this than us, legitimate users, we have to put up with Crappy lag, bad netcode, and stupid patches, that is caused because of the most stupid programming error.

I would suggest you guys at SD and GPG take a basic programming lesson because this is a NULL pointer exception, how the hell do I know, I've programmed long enough to know when Windows sets a memory block at address 0x00000000 or 0xDEADBEEF its an unilitialised pointer.

Now I know some people here have posted here that opening their NAT ports and forwading the ports works, well I've done that so many times now, the machine is basically on DMZ. Would this help? No as I can clearly see this is a NULL POINTER EXCEPTION.

Uni students make these mistakes because they dont know how memory allocations and deallocations work, now I dont know who is programming there, but certainly it seems like amateur hour there to make such a pathetic error.

I don't necsarrily blame the programmers (especially having been/be there). It's a group thing and its a failure on multiple levels, number one being a lack of validation/test. I know these guys are busting their ass to get this working. That being said, I've given them as much hell as anyone. I just hope there's a sane explanation of these problems and it's a NONE ISSUE in the weeks to come. I think SD (and even GPG) knows they are burning through goodwill at an alarming pace.

If they wonder why blizzard makes so much money its not because of the pretty boxes and good marketing machine.

Yeah, all programmers make mistakes, but real businesses test their code to make sure it works before pushing it out to everyone.  (Although, given the issues from the start, one can't help but feel that the network code was done by drunk CS freshmen in India.)

A strange error happened last night with me and a friend. The game spawned an error message while in a match (2 vs 2). Unfortunately I didn't get the copy paste, but it was similiar in format. I was able to continue the game though if I didn't click "close" on the error message. About 10 mins after the message (still on my screen btw) me and my friend both froze for about 20 seconds. His lock up cleared, mine didn't, and then my game finally ended up crashing.

 

Anyone with a similiar issue? Pretty strange.

It seems to work for me about 1 in 10 tries right now.  But I've only been able to play when there is only a single other human player. 

I am running:

Windows XP SP3
Dual monitors at 1920x1080
nVidia GeForce 7600 GS
GeForce 182.50 drivers (upgraded from 175.80)
Intel PRO/1000 PL NIC (13.5 drivers)
Intel D975XBX2 motherboard
pfSense BSD router (Capable of tens of thousands of states and shaping 50Mbps+ of traffic)

I've tried:

  1. Forwarding ports 6073, 6100-6200, and verified data was being forwarded through. 
  2. Setting the Impulse ports to auto, and a variety of ranges within the suggest range. 
  3. Changing resolutions, including windowed. 
  4. Setting CPU affinity so it only uses a single CPU core.  
  5. Telling my girlfriend I couldn't come by because I was working on "computer problems".
  6. Enabling the router to respond to pings.
  7. Joining custom games and skirmishes.
  8. Waving my arms about wildly and reciting ancient incantations.

Is there anything I've missed?

This is my first day trying to join online mode (single player works fine)

Im running

-windows xp 32bit

-3.25gb Ram

-Radeon 4870 1gb

-3.0 ghz E8400 processor

-Audio is built in on the ASUS p5q Pro motherboard

-Running at 1680x1050 resolution on 22" Samsung Widescreen Monitor with extended desktop on 19" LG monitor at 1280x1024
