"Unsubscribe from Thread" Feature???

"Unsubscribe from Thread" Feature???

Bara, i know you busy and all, but since you have been tweaking the forums of late i thought I'd throw out the suggestion of a "Unsubscribe from Thread" feature.

I know there are plenty of folks who after making a reply in a topic, then see that topic listed in their my replies long after their interest has faded on that topic.

This would be most helpful for in the OT forums where topics can digress from the OP quite easily, making further contributions non existent.  But i see a use for it across the board. I know i must not be the only one that has made an errant post here and there, and then still has to see that particular thread in "My Replies".

Thoughts? Is it doable? Furthermore, do others see the potential?

Cheers mate.

I disagree. I think it'd be more worthwhile to make a separate "watched threads" or "subscribed threads" list than to clear the my replies page. What if you wanted to "unclear" a cleared reply? How would that work exactly? Would you have to reply again to see it in the list? Being able to simply subscribe/unsubscribe from important topics is a better way of handling this, imo.

Hmmm since My Relies is the only way we can "subscribe" to a thread, if you will, what redneckdude is saying is perfect. Most people use the feature to keep track of their conversations, and only want to see their current active threads.

If that is not wanted by SD, then bring back the watchlist button by all means. That is the feature that is wanted.

If that feature was brought back/implemented, then i would simply add every thread i post in to the list and then unsub as needed. I would never need My Replies again.

Works for me. (Can we have a way to hide the "My Replies" tab then......:P)

Watchlist with sub/unsub feature.

I'm for whatever works here, Bara. But think of the way you delete something on Windows...goes to recycle bin, where you can go and restore it. Wouldn't that be doable on the web? Just asking, I know nothing of the workings of a website, I just know what I would like.  I am for whatever works, just hate having to sort thru all the pages of replies when I have no interest in them anymore.

I agree 100%. Subscribed topics would act like a list of favorites. For example, now i have a bookmark made to My Replies page, too see some of the topics i've replied and i'm still interested in. But a lot of them i don't wanna see them again after i've posted, such as this thread. It's really strange that this forum doesn't have such a feature. I'm active on a lot of forums on the internet, and this is the only one that i've encountered this problem.

Quoting GunslingerBara, reply 25

Quoting RedneckDude, reply 24Again, I think we are meaning we would like a way to clear the histories of our replies, at least from our list. Before I changed names, I had 10 or 12 pages...most of which I had no interest in ever visiting again. It is understood that we are not "subscribed" to the replies pages. It would be cool to be able to clear them, or to be able to choose to remove selected ones, like clearing sent PMs in the PM section.

See my previous post about the "hide" feature. It should be fairly easy to implement, and allows to "unhide" a thread too.

I'll see about making a quick mockup to illustrate my idea, not now though, I need some sleep. :P

The site sent email when someone added a reply, but I'd be just as happy (maybe happier) to have a Watched Threads page along the lines you describe.

I have enough Spam in my eMail box already; Pills, Won somethin', phishers, asciis i can't even decipher... name it. That's the first thing i turn off on any forums i participate(d) to and if it doesn't stop within a week or less i simply cancel the accounts.

Watch threads... the idea is good - but, seriously i just have to compare two columns with last reply tags from me and others. Some left side Icons are on fire, blue cues, etc.

There's always room for improvement, but if i find something interesting what stops me from typing a reply to subscribe permanently as of now. Maybe personal "moderating lock" symbol on the left would indicate me i've just unsubscribe from it... but, that runs the risk of creating a groupies membership as i explained earlier. Gang X ignores Gang Y which in turn starts to ignore Gang Z of noobs which in turn decides to ignore Gang W in Off-Topic sections.

So much for a community sense.

Loneliness is a two edge sword and once someone realizes he is talkin' to the wind, he'll go away.

Don't worry, he may return to determine if a board shows some activity -- too late for Gang A or S or M to regret his absence.

I made a mockup to illustrate my idea. Selecting and deselecting a thread as hidden can be done by simply clicking on the button. When you set a thread to hidden, it won't appear the next time you reload the "Posts I've Replied To" page.

This would allow me to easily see the hidden threads if I should choose to. And I'd be able to hide "low prio" threads, just to not have to see them every time I check the posts I've replied to (like the game threads, which are fun, and I like to participate in them at times, but I don't always want to see them)

Call it what you want... i'd have to agree with mickeko's simplicity that makes such a Forum controlling feature useful enough. Hide icons -- it certainly could be. :jafo:

I have a more interesting system in mind :)  I think you guys will like it when I eventually develop it.  Thanks for the screenshot mickeko.
