what if you have no mouse zoom wheel?

Is there a keyboard equivalent on the main map to zoom in and out of the universe? The +/- keys work fine on the mini-map but I've found nothing that works on the main map. I have a trackball on my pc (same problem on my laptop, though). No mousewheel, so how do I zoom?

Only the +/- keys on the numpad zoom the minimap, the ones between 0 and Backspace will zoom the main view.

You may want to check https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Keyboard_shortcuts for a list of shortcut keys, such as Ctrl+Arrows to rotate the camera etc.
