How do you make an issue more important to the electorate?

I know from experince that winning an endorsement makes that issue come up in at least 4 % important to the electorate. The game book says that speeches and ads change how important it is to the people, but how many ads does it take. I've had elections where I've advertised heavily on jobs, outsourcing and deficit reduction only to have that be a non-issue to the electorate. Are speeches more effective to make an issue important. I wish speeches weren't so expensive, I almost never use them.

Use Speeches. It will make the difference. They won't believe an ad on it's own as hearing it from you personally to back it up. If your Charisma is high the more they believe you. You could put an ad out saying how much (for example) you hate Spinach, but there's nothing so powerful as the population hearing how much you loathe and hate it.

So, use a speech as often as you can afford it whereever you go. I'd suggest going to High population areas and of course your key states you wish to win for your issues.

That's good advice, but they're so expensive in stamina. Usually the first half of the game I am trying to build politcal clout and my monetary resources. Then in the 2nd half I'm trying to play catchup with the issues. Personally I think speeches should cost less stamina, but cost in funds. I wonder if someone could win an election based solely upon speeches. It would be an interesting theory to try out. I don't think it would work because of the lack of awareness. The rules need to be a little more clear on just what exactly one gains by giving speeches.

Not sure how or what else to tell you on that I usually have to plan when to do my speeches, like you say, to save up for it and yes, they are quite expensive but it's well worth it in the end.

If nothing else all I can do is tell you that I plan my speeches to go about once every 5 weeks(turns) or so along with as many TV ads as I can reasonably afford. By reasonably, I mean 3-4 spaced out enough so I don't exhaust my cash flow too early.

Hope the additional reasoning behind my madness helps you sort it all out a bit more.

I tried an election usuing the very charismatic character of JFK on beginner level against an easy candidate Dick Cheney. The first time I gave speeches around the country. I certainly did not need as much money and ran very few ads until the last weeks. I noticed that I didn't start to pull ahead in the electio until late when I ran the ads. I ran a second time more on the strategy that you posted and closer to my normal strategy. The speeches tend to push the issues I want higher in importance while the ads made me look better on those positions.

Thanks for your help Reagans Clone. I think it would be interesting to play you online, especially since I have to guess that you're a Republican with your monniker. I haven't tried it before.

See, That's what I am talking about. Enough people I imagine had seen and heard you speak that when you ran your ads and people began noticing; "Hey, I heard that guy the other day talk and now I see his ads running. I know him, like him from what I have seen on TV, he looks like he bathes and looks good on tv and sounds good on radio and agree with his point of view because he has personally made his case. I am completely brainwashed!"

sounds great. I just did another where I gave 3 speeches during the campaign, got the issues I wanted and pulled away.

Excellent. You sound like you've got your strategy padded down now. But my question is how much are you winning your issues by now on the exit polls since you're starting to win by giving more speeches as far as you can tell? Or have you really noticed any changes?

I've noticed myself that the more I give a speech and put out ads simutaneously, I have more chances at the National Talk shows which also enhances my issues to larger audiences.
