Any chance for new chars in future?

Any chance for new chars in future?

Anyone know? ATM I play Parth, and well I know theres 4 (in depth<- not really..) characters..... I can see these characters getting very old and same with items if stardock doesn't update with new items/characters... much like DOTA, eventually we all find the good characters to play...

I know Ive only played a few games, but Im quickly realizing which characters are good and not good at least for most games Ive been put in... I imagine some 4v4 might be fun to have a good mix... but When I play Parth I usually have a few favourites...

But anyways I can see the characters getting old after a few weeks if people play hardcore (once servers fixed).

No, I'm all for digital distribution and with Blizzards new "Enter your CD key with your blizzard accoutn and download games whenever you want" deal it makes it all the more easy.

See the main difference with DotA characters and Demigod characters is DotA are 100% thought work (Stats, skills, balance stuff, what model I use) and programming. Demigods are thought work, programming, model work, animation work, lore, VO work, particle and spell effects, testing, more testing because a payed product can't have anything broken and reworking menus so the character fits in. Notice how much bigger the second list is?

I say just let light side and dark side pick from the current 8 characters :)  4 on each side seems lame to me.  If I'm a torchbearer, I actually like it when another torchbearer attacks me, gives me a chance to see if my build is better than his build and vice versa.

Then play custom or skirmish

wbobeirne hits the nail on the head. Coding a new demigod wouldnt take a terrible amount of effort I'd imagine, since the framework is already there. Making the assets and balancing on the other hand would consume a huge amount of resources. Fixing what is there already should be a priority over making more content. Dow2 would appear to be light on content for similar reasons.

I think wbobeirne meant to show how much more difficult it is to produce a new Demigod than a new Dota hero, effort-wise. This explains the disparity in quantity of Demigods vs Dota heroes. Furthermore, while Dota has effectively a limitless budget and no deadline (IceFrog/Guinsoo/Eul did their work on Dota unpaid and with no time constraints), Demigod is done by a working company in business, with paid engineers, artists, producers, etc.

To top it off, Dota has had a longer history (discounting its early days as a Starcraft custom map) of development.
