Word of WARNING

It has been clear from the beginning that this is a multiplayer-centric game.  Why didn't you research that beforehand instead of buying it and then complaining?

It was incredibly clear to me looking at the website what this game would be like, so I can't really empathize. 

Also, Tournament Mode (single player) is much closer to a campaign than skirmish, akin somewhat to Dawn of War 40K 1 campaigns. It should not have been difficult to get the game working. 

Well its the most optimized and well made game I bought for PC for a long time, when games have serious tech problem the forum will be totally FLOODED by complaints, Example : (Empire: Total War).

This was a smooth game launch, the game work wonderfully on my heavily modified version of Vista 64 bits, I only use beta drivers and I overcloak like a mad man so I run after problems! But in my case the game work very well.

If you think defragmenting your PC and using all the latest stable drivers and latest directx version is called tweaking, its is not, its called standard and obligatory computer maintenance.

The lack of a campaign was serious disappointment for me aswell. Its really shouldn't even be in there because its just a was of space on the disk. I launched the single player "Tournament Mode"and played the first game. I will never launch it again.

I'd like to have a campaign, but I've known for awhile that there wouldn't be one. The game wouldn't be quite as good if they had to spilt their team up to work on singleplayer and multiplayer at the same time, or did one before the other. Anyways, I've had no issues running the game, opened smoothly when I first started it up and since then I've been playing at a constant 57-59 FPS... and that's with crossfire and Vista 64-bit. Exceeded my expectations, and the option to resize the game when in Windowed mode is greatly appreciated, I don't know why most games don't allow you to do it. 1680x1050 covers up my taskbar are 1400x900 is a little too small for my screen, which means that windowed mode stinks for most other games.

What's the difference between campaign and just playing a bunch of skirmishes? A story? Read the lore for the demi-gods. Seems to me you're very quick to dismiss something just because it doesn't have what YOU want.

This post by BenjaminLupine has made me decide to buy the game.  I absolutely love good multiplayer games and abhor, and I mean ABHOR single player games.  Single player games are a complete joke as AI is always ignorant and boring.  It is very nice to see the game developers of Demigod focus primarily on multiplayer much like what Massive did for World in Conflict.  Very good.  Bravo...Bravo!

I will be buying this game sometime in May and I look forward to having fun with you all.

I know exactly how you feel, yesterday I went to the store and bought a bottle of diet pepsi, got home and started drinking it... It turns out it didn't even have any sugar in it, why would they sell pop without sugar.  I felt taken advantage of and I tried to take it back but they said I was trying to take advantage of them.  Needless to say, I'll never buy pepsi again.

My only disappointment with the game stems from the fact that this particular multiplayer centric game has a multiplayer mode that barely even functions at this point.  Whoever said this was a smooth launch I'm not sure what game you've been playing. I had to go through much tweaking same as the original poster in order to even get the game to run.  Now that it runs it still hangs for long periods of time between screens in the menu.  The UI is buggy and slow in general, and multiplayer games are next to impossible to get into.  So far I've only succeeded in joining one game which was a pantheon match.  Guess I'll just have to go back to DoW II for a while until this game is playable.

I want to explain myself to why I took the Empire : Total War example, I love PC gaming because for me half the fun is configuring and tweaking my games to make it work, the buggiest the game is the happiest I am! But I was kinda disapointed with Demigod because I don't have any bugs or problems so I have nothing to do or tweak. Just had to redirect some ports in my router to my internal ip address because its clearly stated in the instruction manual to do this. After, the multyplayer worked flawlessly.

You should come over sometime I had so many bugs with trying to play TF2 I pretty much had to try every suggestion steam has for the specific problem and it still isn't fully fixed.

Why in the world would someone buy Demigod for a single player experience.  Did you not read anything about the game first?

So true.. kinda crazy tbh, if you are making a multiplayer game the first thing you should figure out is how to network maybe.. I expect this stuff from a console game but this is PC :/

Well, i'm sure they will be fixing the network problems, they knew that would happen because there are huge amount of types of routers and they couldn't fix all the problems related to them.

If you're having trouble, you should try the support forum, people in here are very friendly (unlike 90% of the people on the internet).

It was pretty clear from all the online info that this was a skirmish/mp focused game. Just a guess, but a single player campaign probably bumps the production cost of a game by 25%, not to mention the delays in time - etc.

I have played SINS like crazy since it came out and have not played a single online match. I love skirmishing the AI or teaming up with my kids over the LAN. I have never missed the SP campaign, I knew one wasn't there.

You just have to know what you are buying before you buy it. Caveat emptor. If you made an impulse buy (no pun intended) then sometimes those backfire.

Wow, forums DO automaticly assume you're a troll. Now I'll admit I've been a lil hostile... I was quite upset at the moment but you people have been delightfully cruel. Still, watching people galvanize over the campaign/no campaign issue has raised some interesting thoughts. Are we, as PC gamers, looking for a world simply devoid of any and all single player activity in exchange for more multiplayer content? Should we be trying to strike a balance between the two? Should we even care?

Demigod has never pretended to be anything else but a multiplayer game.

If that is not what you are interested in playing thats cool. But why not go play another game with a campaign instead of complaining this game doesnt have one?

There is so many negative threads on this board at the moment that its hard to see the posts from people overjoyed with the game from the ones complaining that Demigod does not match up to their preconceptions.

The negative posts are going to make curious people who come to the boards to evaluate whether or not they are going to buy it shy away. That can only hurt Stardock, Gas Powered Games and those of us who freaking love Demigod so in that sense I'm getting mad at all these people coming in venting their spleen and leaving never to be seen again.

Most of these posters have not even played it. So for the love of @#%^ if this game isnt what you want to play... COOL! Maybe you would prefer Elemental or some other title that fits in with what you want in a game. But please don't badmouth the game, start arguments based on inference and preconception then bugger off and leave the rest of us to deal with the mess.

Edit: And to those who did buy it without reading the list of features printed on the box or listed on the page where you clicked buy - who is really at fault? Do you go into a fruit shop, buy a bag of fruit without looking then complain when you get home that you have oranges and not the apples you wanted? (This is what Tidus1492 was saying)

Eh, so I was a bit naive. Perhaps it's wrong to do ANYTHING in the gaming world these days without at least 5 months of research before hand but I find that obsessing over a game that long make the wait unbearable and causes even more undo disappointment should it happen to be less than expected... Recent Lionhead games, I'm looking at you. But really, if the bad words are cutting into Stardock sales.. So be it. If the problems are truely that bad they DESERVE to take a few shots to the jaw and wallet.

One last word for now. The entire multiplayer focus has rendered the story just about meaningless. The War in Heaven archetype is EXCELENT basis for a game... But there's no possible resolution, plot, point, or developement beyond "this is why you're pwning noobs". If that's what you want, that's great but you shouldn't put work into a story you'll never use. Guys, we know you wanna take it easy so if you're doing a multiplayer only game just drop down a paragraph or a few sentences then spend the rest of the time talking units. That's the only thing that matters. Also, I believe that's what has upset me the most here. There was a beautiful story here, great narative potential. The entire thing GLOWS with epic promise... that will not and CAN NOT ever be fufilled now. It feels alot like using the mona lisa to bludgeon hobos todeath.
