Demigod launches, but won't get past the intro scenes.

Hey folks

I've read up on the stickies regarding the webcame and the comodo firewall. I do not have either of those.

My game launches, I get the company logos and the game cinematic, but then the screen becomes black, and nothing else happens. I have the cursor that I can move around, and I think one time I could hear wind howling, but it won't load any further.

I also cannot terminate the game in anyway, so the only thing left to do then is to restart the computer.

Has anyone else run in this problem. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

My game was working fine. Then I tried running the updates on Impulse. Now this problem happened for a while. I reinstalled the game, and the game hangs at the black screen but eventually passes it. The verson number of the game now reads "Version Number DG". No real number is given. Also I can't log into the Pantheon now. It says it failed to connect to the reactor server.

There's already another thread on this:

Same thing happened to me and I just gave it some time, then walla, the regular menu came up. The multiplayer stuff froze on me, but the single player worked normally, so I assume that the servers are wacked.

Same problem for me also.  Played once after update.  Then tried online and did something can't remember.  Restarted DG and then walla blackscreen again and again and again.  Has sound looping with blackscreen of annoance.

I'm having the same problem. I gave it 15 minutes and then 3-finger salute closed it. Had to reboot, 'cause the audio got stuck in a loop.

I really wish devs would beta a small amount of people, professional people, and multiple PCs with different set-ups.  I know it is just released but for the love of God!  Battlenet and WC3 was the best launch of any game like this.  I wish they would read these boards and fix problems like this asap.  The problem mentioned here cannot be a problem on the user end... seeming we have multiple of people experiencing it.......

Same here. I got the game, tried to get on to multiplayer. After 10 mins just trying to get to the multiplayer screen, I failed to join 20 games. Decided I'd stick with single player for now. Played a game, loved it. Tryed multiplayer, got DC'd and the game froze. Ctrl+Alt+Del out, tryed to open the game. Black screened for a consecutive 30 mins. Kept trying, black screened every time. This is quite the problem here....

What did they do! I actually booted the game up this morning and it worked A-OK. Messed with some profile stuff, tinkered around, and when I closed it noticed there was another minor patch. Patched it and went to work. Coming back to finally get a good game going after that patch? Completely hosed. It just locks up completely after the intro screens. Patches are not for breaking the game, they are for fixing )=

That is exactly what they DID do.

And yes I'm getting the same problem and it's very annoying. Renaming the bik movies doesn't work nor does hitting Esc instead.

I managed to get in this time. I waited and just let the first few movies play through, and then clicked through the whole "intro story" movie, waited 5 seconds, and it seemed to like that. Does this make any sense from a technical standpoint? Not that I can think of. But hey, its time for technovoodoo to commence if it gets the game to work.

In a word: no. The whole process seems to be very tempermental. That was probably a coincidence, and there are other factors at play making it work/not work.

All the menus are a bit messed up, sometimes it works sometimes it dont. What i do, i click until the last vid freezes then i wait like ten seconds (can hear the wind blowing) and then the menu turns up. I think the HARD DISK starts reading again at that point (anybody noticed this?).

Good luck everyone! lol

I was experiencing the lock-up's everytime I clicked the mouse or pressed a key during the intro movie.

After reading the boards, my solution was to (Note that I am using an XP system so you vista folk will have to adjust paths):

1.  Rename the movie file (dg_intro.bik) found in C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Demigod\movies

2.  Start Demigod, DO NOT use the mouse or keyboard...watch the short AD movies, and get to a black screen.

3.  Wait patiently (1 minute maybe a bit more) and the menu will display.

For me the key was step 3, as there is no indication that the system is doing anything...I was thinking it was crashed.  I running a Core2 Duo at 3.3 Gig and am not very patient.

To Summarize...

2.  Start Demigod, DO NOT use the mouse or keyboard...watch the short AD movies, and get to a black screen.

3.  Wait patiently (1 minute maybe a bit more) and the menu will display.  I mentally counted, and it was about 70 seconds.

I waited about 30 mins of not playing and I got on and it was fine. In fact, it was running even smoother. Nice job Stardock. Gj pulling it all together

It must be the waiting for 30 minutes and looking at porn then coming back and realising wholla it worked... doubt it.

Make sure you have the latest version through Impulse.  The latest updates change the location of the server Demigod is checking at start, and if using the old version it may take longer due to the original server being crippled by bad connections/pirated copies.

Thanks Shirley...

I allowed impulse to update my demigod game (which put the intro video file back), and ran the game from impulse...

The movie started, and I was able to interrupt it, and got to the menu in under 10 seconds.  So far so good.

FYI: The demigod.exe file is version 1.0.0.91, and the ImpulseReactor.dll is version 1.0.0.33

Thanks again, and "hang in there stardock"...  I can imagine the situation, and thank you.
