I-League Scourge

I'm pretty new to Galciv ... in fact its my first game.

I've read about the I-League and its god-like powers ... but this is crazy. The I-League is at war with every one ... it has swarms of dreadnoughts (with 175 hp!) everywhere. I'm jsut thankful they're not into planetary conquest. They're only interested in destroying any starship anywhere in the galaxy. I've given up fighting them ... its pointless. I can't outclass their tech or the amount of ships they have. The I-League has halted all trade in the galaxy.

What's worse. They will not settle for peace. I've put all my systems on the table, ridiculous sums of money (100 for 5000 months) ... no go. The result is a galaxy with absolutely no space travel. Any ship is destroyed within 2 months. I've got terror stars but cannot build them. As soon as any ship is built (even if it stays in orbit), it attracts those dreadnaughts and is quickly done away with.

The game is dragging on and on not because I'm in danger of losing but because I (and everyone else ... I mean everyone) can't do anything but build improvements and research.

Sounds tough

Try building anti-matter missles, good way to make a come back.

I had one game where AI totally outclassed me, I researched Excaliburs, leased ONE ship and wiped them all out.

Might work if you can last that long.

(yes, Exc. is close to tech victory but more fun)

I tried that for a while ... using AMM's (this was before I just gave up completely on military). The problem was production. I just couldn't out pace the I-League AI ... the number of ships is incredible.

The one time I began to wear down their military was a ship discovery event that gave me 100 corvettes in one shot. The sheer number had the AI going crazy. I think I attracted every I-League ship in the galaxy. Things got quite for six months or so but then it all started up again.

I ended the game by alliance. I already had one with the Torians. I made one with the Altarians (the only other remaining major power) to end the game.

LOL I kept hoping that a galactic council would take up the issue of the renegade I-League ... scourge of the galaxy! LOL

You can deal with the I-League diplomatically, and it isn't really that out of scale, it just gets an unusual advantage (namely, it gains most of the techs of races whose planets defect to them). Their military power mostly comes from the fact that they always seem to take military political parties and ability picks when they appear.

Actually sounds like an interesting situation:

the Independent planets have grown tired of the invasions, aggressiveness and WMD threat of the Major Civs and have established a 'no fly zone' across the galaxy...

More news at eleven!

Hikertrash - what a fantastic game! I have never seen the I League do anything like that in my games. Savour the moment because you'll probably never see the I League do anything ever again!

Thanks for the moral support. You're right Christopher, I've not seen an I-League like that since.

I've up-ed the difficulty, lost a bunch of games. In my current game, the I-League is again pretty formidable. But this time, they'll negotiate. I've got them wiping out the Torian fleets everywhere in the galaxy. When they're done, I'll declare war and send in my transports for the absorbtion of that wayward empire. LOL

The I-Leauge are destablizing everone in the game I'm playing right now. Not a problem, it just sucks that I can't do it back to them.

Hehe, in the game I'm on now, I'm on great terms with the I-League, but they're at war with the Drengin and Arcean. They were mainly just defending, so I went, built a fat defensive starbase next to their planet, and gave it to them. Took out a lot of enemy ships before they got it, then I just did it again. Both sides kept blowing up each other's trade routes to me, but I was having too much fun to care. Pure evil is, well evil. But so pure. :)

I've played one game on a gigantic galaxy where the League had, at the end, just under 6 trillion people, and it seemed like every damned system they had was filled to the brim with Excaliburs, and they had plenty more roaming around.

They managed to get pretty lucky and it just snowballed exponentially from there. I finished the game with one system left... the Torians controlled one half of the galaxy, the I-League the other. And before I got pounded I was in possession of half of it myself, heh.

I barely squeaked out with a research victory... the Torians kept sending troop ships, but they never sent enough of them continously to kill off the system. Came really close a few times, though.

Oh, yeah. And their Excaliburs had something like 750-900 HP, 500 attack, if I remember correctly. It would take three of mine to destroy one of theirs, usually. When I was at war with just the Torians I was really wishing I could buy ships from the I-League.

Treylis echoed what I think is the crux of the I-League's power. Their ships are just so powerful. Even their corvets have HUGE hp and attack bonuses. Combine that with their prodigious production rates and they're off the charts in term of power. I just pray I can stay on their good side. In that first game (that started this thread) my alliance with the Torians dragged me into war with them. The one time I managed to negotiate a peace, my alliance dragged me back to war in less than a year.
