ship speed?

ok heres the question why are the ships so slow?

i have the ship speed set to fastest but it takes about 5 minutes for a fleet to jump from one planet to another another 5 to get through the planet area and then 5 more to get to the next planet and it takes about 20 minutes to get from one star to another

the rest of this game i love im just sitting here browsing the forums while im waiting for my fleet to get to another star system.

i also have noticed another issue when i quit game i get to the screen where you can see all your statistics and those of the ai's when i click on the main menu button the game freezes up completely i cant alt tab out or alt-ctrl-del out of it

post edit hrmm seems more like 30 mins + to travel from one star to another

did you go to the in-game editor? it's possible to set phase lane length to insane proportions.

(also, check game speed.  set it to fast on next load - set everything to fast)

I know your pain buddy, I asked myself the same question a long time ago, I'm gonna quote myself:

Why no upgrade to increase the speed of ships?

We can upgrade hull, shields, armor, weapons, but why can't we upgrade their speed & acceleration?

it could go like this:

- Speed upgrade 1: +5% for all frigates

- Speed upgrade 2: +10% to all frigates, +5% to all cruisers

- Speed upgrade 3: +15% to all friigates, +10% to all cruisers, +5% to all capital ships

And why do all the ships have the same speed:

Scouts: 1000, Basic Assault: 800, Long Range: 500...

Why not give Vasari scouts: 1200, TEC scouts: 1100 and Advent scouts: 1000

Why not give all Capital Ships different speed. For exemple, the Vasari Antorak Marauder could have something like 625 instead of 525. Making it better at raiding enemy positions.

I think this would make each race a little more unique.

ill double check what i set the phase lane distance to in the editer altho i dont think i changed it at all

its just that after about 30 mins of watching all these little blue dots trave from the halfway point to the quarterway point i got tired and quit the game while i love strategy games this was just too long with absolutely nothing happening

half an hour for 1/4 a lane?  that means a HUGE phase lane.  generally it takes but ten to twenty seconds for phase (longer ones; shorter ones are 3-5 seconds), and thirty seconds to cross a well

Thats why I always have a good book handy cause when I get into latter parts of the game, my fleet has so much experience that I sometimes dont even need to order it around. Also, when you make maps make sure to preview them. That and set speed to fast at the game setup menu

press the + to speed up the game and the - to slow down, goes up to 8x speed of normal game speed.

i know that length good... I was playing with the DS mod on one of their maps... and for some reason if a scout or a colony frig or a starbase ship flew to my cap planet or this one volcano planet... they would come out of hyper half way through the phase jump and be forced to fly the rest of the way...

Needless to say i was not pleased when I found out my fighters would go after enemies for that whole trip.
