Other Armies

Hi,

Really looking forward to the game!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned.  I understand there are 2 main factions.  I also read that we would not be craking out armys of unicorns.  Other than the fact that if i was under sige from a unicorn army i would laugh my self to death, what if there was a unicorn Forest where you could capture then crank them out as a % of you army.   Meaning if there was a Dirt mound were a small army of Lizard men were dweling would it be possible to capture and in return have units auto produce.  similer to CIV 4 Col.   Were you would put a missionary in the indian trible and receive a unit after a wile has passed.

Wouldn't hurt.

I get the impression that fantastic creatures will be individual recruitments and not a steady-supply model. Maybe modding will be able to change that.

. I *know* modding will change that, just based on how frogboy's been talking about it.  (not to mention my own plans)  I suspect that some fantastic creatures will be easier to obtain than others, possibly some coming in units or swarms (i mean honestly how else could something like a 'goblin' act on a battlefield holding mostly  large units)

I also hope modding will allow for nations to provide unique races.  I'd love to see our Elemental games have a nation of lizardmen, a nation of dwarves, a nation of undead, a nation of goblins, a nation of elves, a nation of intelligent insects, a nation of orcs and a nation of humans all battle in the realm for control.   The game could also include an allied victory setting.

I can only imagine if  J.R.R.  Tolkien was restricted to having only human races control the cities within his books and the elves, dwarves, goblins, halflings and orcs were just minor side pieces.  Even Sauron, the eye of fire, would have to be a human leader.  Somehow these fantasy stories would not be as memorable.

After I typed reply 2 above, I saw some stuff from Scott in another thread that seemed to indicate that some dungeons could indeed be converted (via a 'spell of control' or somesuch) to a production source for fantastic creatures.

Re the no-Rivendell in the vanilla game, I'm steadily growing to like the idea for two basic reasons. First, it should give games played with only the canon content a distinct flavor that helps it stand out in the genre. Second, the devs are clearly interested in having players build 'completely different things' using the tools that Elemental provides, so it should only be a matter of time before we see competing Tolkien content sets, some D&D homages, etc. I just hope Stardock will do more than it sounds like they want to by way of creating a heavily quality-checked status for user-made content.

I for one do not want to have a monster pumping node or whatever (at least in the begining). I think it will be refreshing to have a rarity of monsters.

However I love the idea that we have a choice. At some point I might want to have bear cavalry (LOL I forget who loves those)

It's  easier to start with a large selection of outfits and use only a few combinations, as compared to starting with only a few selection of outfits and perhaps later wishing you had more choices.   In otherwords a bowl of fruit with lots of variety is better than a bowl of fruit with little variety.

Here's even a better example...  you have a very young relative(nephew) who has two friends he likes equally.   The two friends are not allowed to play together because of a fight, but the very young nephew is allowed to play with either one of them.  Would he be more tempted to play with the Cowboy and Indian figures from friend_A  or play with the Cowboy, Star_Wars, Dinosaurs, GI_Joe, Star_Trek, Army_Men and Indian figures from friend_B.   Now in the long term anyone would feel comfortable making a bet which friend he would usually visit.

Bears. Not fantastic creatures.

what is wrong with fantastic creatures?

I suspect that bears should be available at start, as well as wolves, boars, and possibly spider (those seem like the most common).  I mean if they are going to have mounts at all, it would be a shame if 'horse', 'warhorse', and 'camel' were the only options.

It would be cool to recruit fantasy creatures and neutral humans/fallen as auxilaries
