Is There A New GalaxyForge for 1.16 and Entrenchment 1.02 In Work?

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a new galaxyforge for 1.16 and Entrenchment 1.02 in work? Just trying to find out if there is a "on the horizon" due date.  I haven't used galaxyforge very much, its a little beyond me, but i wanted to try the start templates thing, so i could load a set of ships for each race, and so i could put the races on different planets.

Like Advent on Desert, Tec on Terran, Vasari on Volcanic world, you know?

Silly i guess, but im try to use the StarStations mini-mod i made so that each race has a different station.   :)

Also, i haven't yet given up the ghost on the little Chess mini-mod i wanted to make, and setting up the 16 chessmen for each side "automatically" would be wonderful!!!  Haha, silly stuff i guess, but wanted to give it a try with the new galaxyforge, as the old one, well... not old, forge3 wont even look at 1.16/Entrenchment 1.02 maps.

Thanks in advance, keep gaming and keep modding!!!  Yay!!!  Haha, i'm in a silly mood today, but happy.   :)

I've recently made a custom map and it seems to work in Sins but doesn't show up in Entrenchment. I tried opening up the Sinsmapsupdater and I get a warning that I have the wrong version. I have the latest versions of both sins and entrenchment.

Also.... what is the exact procedure for uploading a custom map to the Sins Map Downloader site? I can't seem to find what format they want us to use to package the .galaxy file and the texture file. Is it winzip or winrar?

It isn't a map update I am pretty sure that Teal is looking for. I think it is the developer version of the game so we can make changes to mods or create new ones much more faster without restarting for the changes to be made

:)  ty Mooster,

Weyuo, uploading to Wincustomize, is pretty straightforward, just go the the site, www.wincustomize.com and create an account. Then login, then go to "skins" haha, funny thing to call mods & such, but do a search that looks for Sins of a Solar Empire Mods and it should find the page. Click upload file, browse to the area on your computer where the file is (such as my documents or my downloads) and click upload or ok, or whatever button they use and wait while it uploads. It can take quite a while sometimes. Then wait about a week, or two and it should be posted. They will email you to let you know.  :)

Anyway, still dont know about the new galaxyforge, but suspect it will come in time, just like the others, i will just have to wait.

Take care,

teal what problems are you having with galaxy forge?

I have been making maps with 3 for 1.16 & entrenchment without any difficulties so far but I am only creating large roadblock type independent colonies &re-inforced pirate bases on custom layout maps.

I am having a problem with galaxy forge too. whenever i try to start it it says that it has stopped working. i have tried running as an administrator, compatibilety, etc, and nothing will let me use it.

batosai33 do you have all the files from the rar in the SAME folder structure as the galaxy forge exe?

the galaxy forge exe needs the dll, galaxyscenariodef, png's AND icons folder or it will crash.

it is ths old story of not enough 'idiot' proofing in the world to proof against one 'idiot' thinking that they know more than 'experts'

I just got done updating my games and using the latest version of Galaxy Forge, I can create maps that work for Vanilla SOASE 1.16, but they don't appear in Entrenchment 1.02.

greenmitskittle are you placing the maps in the new galaxyforge folder next to mods?

or are you putting them in the old program files galaxy folder?

if you put in the old location you still need the galaxy manifest manager that I wrote for entrenchment 1.01, but if you put them in the new location they work in both sins & entrenchment

hope this helps

Yeah, they were going into /Sins/Galaxy.  Would the new location be Sins/Entrenchment/Galaxy?  Because they still don't show up if I put them there.

the new location is a folder next to the mods folders in the users area, ie for xp C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\galaxyforge and for vista/windows 7 it is C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\galaxyforge

note the two folders after the 'user name' are HIDDEN and you need to unhide hidden folders before you can browse to them

also all maps that are version 3 and in the galaxyforge folder show up in a new maps group after the map designer called 'galaxy forge'

hope this helps

Yay, it works!  Thank you!

I must say, though, that hiding the correct map locations like that is really stupid.  Why can't it be simple, like in the folder where the game actually is.

micros****** do not like it. they want it as well hidden so that pcs are as similar as possible to c*********les.

it is a reqiuerment for 'games for windows' logos.

at lest that is what I have read, and also the way the v******************ta and windows 7 behave.

I think I am going to just stick with the maps that come with the game. It saves a lot of frustration...

Try the ingame map editor, its less work than learning galaxyforge, and quick, it is just the map editor doesnt have as many fine tuned controls, i cant put certain races on certain planets, or give them x amount of ships. But galaxyforge does in fact do this, that is what makes learning it worth it.  :)

For Entrenchment it turns out the galaxy.manifest has to be changed to reflect the map addition if it's not located in some fubar hidden directory. [Seriously, whoever thought of that, should be shot-- probably someone at MS... I dunno, who ever it was- shoot them]

I got sick of the same thing so I wrote a little program in C++ that would modify the [galaxy.manifest] file appropriately.

Might help, might not--

gonzo the only time you need to edit the galaxy.manifest is if you save the galaxyforge map in the program files\sins\galaxy or program files\sins\entrenchment\galaxy folders.

if you save the map in the C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

folders then you do not need to alter any thing.

and shooting is far too good for the IDIOT that insisted that maps be hidden behind not one but TWO hidden folders, in my opinion they and their ENTIRE familys should be burnt at the stake!

it would have been far more sensible to use a folder of the mydocuments\mygames area, but we have to live & lothe the current situation.

I might create a program to move galaxys from a folder in the my docs area to the current correct location for less knowledgeable sinners, but it would be at least two projects off as the first project is my sins mods updater, and the second is my sins stringer
