Latest NVidia driver for 8600 GTS crashes Dark Avatar

I upgraded the drivers to v182.50 and now Dark Avatar just gives a black screen and crashes. Anyone else seen this? Any fix? I am on Vista 32

Strange i'm at 182.08 with a 8600GS on Vista, too - without any flaws. Thanks for the warning though.

Two things you could try;

1- Putting it into "Let application decide option" for 3D parameters.

2- Verify if the driver completely erased the earlier nvlddmkm.sys & was overwritten by the newest, cuz that's what usually happens on borked updating.

Which means going to Add/Remove Programs and uninstalling the Nvidia drivers, rebooting, then installing the new drivers. (in case you just installed over the top of the old drivers, which is a no-no)

Its weird, I uninstalled the latest driver then installed earlier releases (went back a few versions). Dark Avatar still is foobar. But Dread Lords and other earlier releases are just fine, even with 182.50 driver.

Also tried the Let App Decide suggestion - no go.

So I uninstalled DA then reinstalled it. Nope, no go.

What I am thinking is if I can find the file that configs video, maybe I can set it to a windowed mode instead of Fullscreen? Then perhaps it will fixed the file (if indeed a file is corrupted).

Anyone knwo what file I need to edit to change from fullscreen to a window?

Prefs.ini within Video section.

Thanks! Editing that to go to windowed mode allowed it to run, then I went to Video prefs, set it to fullscreen, exited and reloaded and Bingo - all is good!
