bootskin vista? What's the point?

No animation

Seems all bootskin vista is capable of doing is applying a static image.

I have been able to do this since before there was a bootskin vista or bootskin pro simply using msconfig and changing some file permissions. Is this all that is available with vista bootskins? If so this application seems a tad lame and I feel a little dissapointed and well riped off. Was hopping for something a little more spectacular.

For most people, using MSconfig and changing permissions isn't easy.  Bootskin makes it so.  It also provides an easy way of creating and sharing skins.

MS didn't provide much flexibility to the users.  Bootskin does what it can.

As to feeling disappointed and ripped off .  . didn't you look into it before you used it.

As an aside, you either got the free version or as part of ODNT.  I hope the rest of the suite (at it's fairly low price point) makes up for any feelings you may be having.

I would love to know how you did this.

I appreciate the ability to easily customize my startup, even though I rarely reboot anymore.  Thanks Stardock for these sorts of small freebies on top of the more front and center applications.  :)

Part of OD, the ripped off feeling, because I renewed in July because of the promiss of a bootskin app only to find after getting around to trying it out that it is as I said lame. A disclamer of what it lacks in ability should be made more clear so people can avoid this thing.

Also having permissions problems with other object desktop apps working in the admin acc but not in others. Vista is perhaps the end of desktop cutomization, haven't tried OB in win 7 yet.

I'm responsible for BootSkin Vista.

I'd like to see a progressbar and animation.  If it were possible it'd be there.  Instead we wait for Win7 and we'll swing at that.  :)

Agreed, my little rant is as much at vista I guess. To bad the win 7 boot couldn't be transplanted to vista, oh well.

Now that Win7 has been offically released, will there be a Win7 BootSkin program available?  I like all my elements to match and that's the only thing that's missing right now and the BootSkin Vista won't work with Win7 as the Logon Studio Vista does.  Any "inside" info or nuggets of suggestion would be nice..... :pout:

same here win 7 bootskin

I'll have to double check on this, but I believe that there were new security checks implemented in Windows 7 that make BootSkins significantly harder to do.

the way win 7 starts if it is possible it would look great if they could use it in the same way for skins :wc:

Is it close to the 7th inning stretch?

Is it close to the 7th inning stretch?

Probably more like top of the second.  If we do make a BootSkin 7, it won't be soon.

In vista you can change boot logo .

you need 2 bmp files (24 bit)

of resolution 640 by 480 and 1024 by 768 and replace the resources in winload.exe.mui under no gui boot option Thats' what bootskin vista does . But for a normal person it is not safe.
