Aside from the fact that I am well aware of how crappy a time vets have getting a job (sorry, man), I also know I read slow as shit. It's not that I have some 'disability', I just tend to picture things and thus move in a realtime fashion. Even when there's nothing physically going on, I have all these little thoughts going on inside my head about the stuff. So I read pretty damn slow (no way I would get those books done in a day... assuming I ever had a whole day) but I not only remember a lot of the stuff in the books, but can also point out allusions and tie together allegorical concepts really quick. I completely destroyed a piece by Kirkegaard although my teacher read it several times over and I read it once.

Banned because your teacher said that if you keep the first and last letters of a word but change those inbetween it is still legible. Once you get the context this stuff is easy.

banned cause he's halfway right. In this case, you have to get the context. If you keep the original letters and just switch them around (not counting the first and last), then it flows much better for most people. If you want a guaranteed success, then keep the first and last letters, jumble those in the middle, and keep any letters with high or low points, such as j or l, as close to their original placement as possible. Yes, most people really skim words rather than read them.
